As with every new device, once people start to receive them we start hearing about all of the flaws of the device. The following issues pose a big problem as T-Mobile gears up for the official launch of the G2. First up is that unique “Z” hinge mechanism which looks very cool and allows the display to rest almost flush with the keyboard allowing for easy screen to keyboard maneuvering.
This issue, as shown above, is that the “Z” hinge is already becoming really loose allowing the display to actually drop down if holding the G2 upside down. Check out the video below for a better understanding.
The second issue users are noticing is that the internal storage for the G2 which is supposed to be 4GB is actually showing just under 2G which is said to come on the HTC Desire Z, seems like someone pulled the old switcheroo with the device batch. We’re unsure if T-Mobile and HTC knows about this issue, but they need to start finding a way to make this right and fast before the official launch coming up next Wednesday.
Anyone experiencing these issues with their G2? Let us know in the comments below.

Wow, this is very disappointing, I was gonna pick this up on Monday at a local Radio Shack that will have it but I’m having second thoughts now, maybe I should wait.
I don’t have a hinge problem, but I do have the missing memory. I noticed it last night and was kinda pissed. We should get free memory cards for the disapointment.
T-Mobile is feeding you a load of bull… I have a Nexus One with Stock Android 2.2. The Nexus One only comes with 512mb of internal flash memory and on a clean install of android 2.2 (no downloaded apps, just what comes with stock 2.2) I have roughly 186mb of free space still.

I called tmobile and they told me:
” Once the Android operating system is added, programs are loaded, all of the network required items (to handle email, MMS, SMS, etc.), the 3.9GB internal memory is signficantly reduced.
Also, When discussing space, 1GB = 1,000MB. But when formatting memory, operating systems handle it differently (Windows for desktop computers, Android for Mobile phones, Blackbery OS, etc.). When an operating system formats drive space, it requires 1,024MB of space to format to 1GB of “usable” space.”
Not sure I believe the OS is 3 GB
Mine didn’t ship with 4Gb, although it looked closer to 1.5 then 2, but I could be wrong I would have to look again. So far no hardware problems. I was wondering why the Memory would be different between the G2 (supposedly 4gb) and the Desire Z (announced as 1.5Gb) since its the same phone with stock android on one and HTC Sense on the other. It makes me wonder if T-mob screwed up in advertising it as 4GB and it’s really supposed to be 1.5
Wow this is a huge screw up. hardware issues are always much more complicated to fix. Two major issues makes this twice as worse

Couldn’t have said it better myself
Never buy the first batch of any new device.
Good going Tmobile.
Bad form T-Mobile and HTC
Bad form T-Mobile and HTC
These devices go through extensive testing, so maybe there was just a bad batch or something…
I know nothing is perfect, but you would think, at least with the hinge issue, that someone would have noticed in testing.
Mine came with just under 2 gigs also. I was sold a lie as it stands…
I have both issues and am a little disappointed.
I just got off the phone with an HTC customer service rep.
They state that every G2 has 4gb of rom but 3gb are inaccessible due to the android os/applications and ??? used by the system. The applications that you can’t uninstall without accessing those inaccessible 3gb. Three guesses what is hiding in that missing storage…( Obviously our evil anti root kit that the XDA think tank is trying to crack as we speak.)
That is seriously false advertising to put this on their product page spec sheet.
Processor 800 MHz Qualcomm MSM 7230
Operating System Android 2.2
Memory 4GB ROM, 512 MB RAM
When has any other HTC phone launched advertising a set amount of ROM and only served up a fraction of that advertised ROM to be accessible for use by the consumer?
Are there people out there with 2gb or 1.5gb of available storage? I only got 1.
