More Information Re: Samsung Vibrant Update Coming Next Week

If you are a little agitated with Samsung and T-Mobile because of the delayed OTA update for the Samsung Vibrant, you might rest a little easier as Samsung has stated on their Facebook page that more details regarding the OTA update will be coming next week.

T-Mobile and Samsung are hearing your questions regarding timing for the Vibrant software upgrade. We are continuing to work diligently to provide you with improvements in an effort to provide you with a high quality experience. We plan to have more information to share next week regarding timing on when these updates will be delivered to customers over-the-air. Thank you for your patience.

Hopefully soon after, they’ll be pushing out an OTA update to address some of the issues we’ve been having including a GPS fix. Samsung recently stated that an update for the Vibrant was available on their Kies program, but T-Mobile quickly urged people to wait for an official OTA update from them. It’s good to know that both T-Mobile and Samsung are aware of the deep frustration this issue is causing customers. Other than the GPS issue, what are some other issues you are experiencing with your Vibrant?

wow I think this phone is awesome its just the gps issue and what not….but other them that I love it! Wish it had a flash though…. If it had the flash and the qwerty like g2 then I wouldve absolutely loved it more then I do now lol

Tmobile is the worst carrier ever for providing updates or even interacting with their clientèle especially in the us there a absolute disgrace to the word customer services as their hardware fails they should have kept it stock like the i9000 i hate carrier branding and the iphone looks like a POS why copy it?

Had my vibrant for 2 weeks now…have yet to have a problem…my GPS works great…everything works great and battery life is amazing…I can get a full day (7a-11p) no problem…could go longer if I tried but I see no reason…its a huge step up from my HD2…but all these “issues” people are talking about I can only suspect are attributable to human error…my vibrant works flawlessly…the only gripe is the built in battery status indicator is a little off…but I downloaded a widget icon and works like a charm…and the whole 2.2 update…have a little patience…I love 2.1…works fine…2.2 would be nice…but I’m happy with what I have…

My vibrant locks up and requires a reboot if I try running the navigation and any other processor intensive program at the same time like pandora or doggcatcher. Never had this issue with my nexus one. I wish I could just breed my two phones and use their baby.

  6. Phrugal says:

What is the easy lag fix? I thouht you had to be root?

  7. Rafo says:

GPS, lag, also my signal bars they come and go, even qhen im in a middle of park I lost network conection, rigth now im at the park and I dont have any bars and my wife phone has 3 3G bars.

  8. Yinkbone says:

I don’t think you understand the complaints. Why should you have to hack the phone to get it to do what it says on the box?! And the GPS fix doesn’t make much difference. My old Mytouch works better.

  9. Zachary Berridge says:

Wah. Here’s a tissue. You’re freaking out about a software update. Which is hysterical, considering the article is about said update.

The vibrant isnt only plagued by a shit gps software, plain & simple, for the one or two nifty little tricks, Touch Wiz is utter crap! Worse than motoblur in my opinion. And if we ever learn that these delays are a result of trying to cram their interpretation of what they think the UI should be then not only will I never get another samsung product, I will never agsin buy another android phone unless it run the default OS and UI

I hate the loss of my groups in contacts, the changes in the calendar (again issues with categories) basically if it isn’t broken don’t “fix” it

If you’ve never rooted it, there is a tremendously easy lagfix/overclock hack you can apply. Its not hard to return the phone to stock, and the best part of the fix is that you are still running the stock ROM, just fixed and turbo’ed. And the GPS fix is pretty simple, too. I hear all the frustration, but this phone is just way too friendly to the geeks and the hackers of the world to not be awesome.

I have had my vibrant for 2 weeks. This phone has the hardware buttons disabled for recovery. i have not experienced ay lag or lockups. The gps is slow to conenect to the sats. My firmware is 2.1-update1 was the stock on the phone i got. Love the phone, just wish the UI did not look like the iphone!

    what rom is everyone on?

  15. Anonymous says:

Man, I made the same move a couple weeks ago but I actually came off with a straight up trade no money down (thank you Craigslist). Although I am deeply disappointed with the LAG & GPS along with the delays, I am willing to give them at least a couple of weeks to set things straight. If we are here two weeks later with this same problem ALL HELL WILL BREAK LOOSE and it will be bye bye Sammy… for good.

  16. MeanSinor says:

they pulled that update because it messed up a lot of people’s phones. We’re still playing the waiting game for a working Samsung ota update for the problem.

  17. MeanSinor says:

My gps never worked, but I didn’t make a big deal out of it, until the navigation took me an hour out of my way and then forced my phone to reboot 2-3 times. lol.

  18. MeanSinor says:

I’ve done both. doesn’t make much of a difference. My Nexus one was faster.

  19. Patricio says:

Same problems here LAGGGGG AND GPS.
I sold my Nexus One to buy the Vibrant Big mistake. We been waiting and waiting for a fix and 2.2 OS.
I never will buy any samsung products.

  20. Raymondkw2003 says:

I think that for those who are having problems with their GPS 3 months is more than enough time for Samsung to come through with a solution. Three months without a working GPS for people that need to use it is just plain unacceptable! People paid good money for their devices and while everyone understands new devices come with problems no one expects a remedy to take so long and to not be able to get any detailed information on the delay!

  21. Jose Mauricio Kristi Cavazos says:

I haven’t had any problems with my vibrant. Gps didn’t work sometimes but its been good enough for now. A lot of people are making outrageous claims about samsung. All I can say is give them time there trying to get 2.2 ready plus this fix. Its easy to criticize someone behind a computer screen. I have a hard time thinking of any android phone in which the community wasn’t whining and moaning about updates. This

  22. Techbeck says:

Will be getting my Vibrant on Monday. Anyone tried the update from Samsung to fix the GPS?

  23. Logan Flynn says:

I gave Samsung one last chance with those phone after the behold 2 massacre. The phone has been out over 2 months and not one official update. Droid x came out same time and had stable froyo weeks into release with a locked bootdisk. Samsung AND T-Mobile are both fucking jokes that need to take a step back from the wireless game to see what there competetors are doing, that they are clearly not. Samsung tried to take the phone industry with this line and in my opinion was a complete and utter fail, THE PHONE STILL CAN’T GET A GPS SIGNAL AND LAGS LIKE A SON OF A BITCH with the fastest processor in the game. Get real sammy and magenta. HTC ftw with verizon… Oh yeah and this all being on 2.1 couldn’t imagine a working 2.2

  24. Border_43 says:

Mine is through Bell Canada, and it constantly freezes and goes into a comma state in my pocket. Its like it’s turning itself off. Im on my second one and they both do it 10-20 times a day.

  25. Eric says:

UMMM root and grab a lagfix and problems solved…stop bein lazy and just fix it yourself.

  27. Sean says:

With my unusable gps and the frustrating lag along with terrible samsung support. (I ordered the dock close to a month ago and still haven’t gotten it) i’m prolly gonna end up selling my vibrant and getting a g2 or mytouch hd (that’ll probably be out by the time we get the update). No more samsung products for me.

  28. Domenico Casillo says:

I would stuck on 2.1 if there isn’t Lag and GPS issue

  29. joeyloke says:

Right! Just that! Its not 2.2! There are some issues with text rendering on the web sometimes and the lag issue too! I hope these issues are fixed or this phone will end up traded or sold!

  30. Bill Surowiecki says:

    Its not 2.2 yet

  31. RaymondP says:

I’ve heard that the dock won’t work with the Vibrant until it gets Froyo. So I wouldn’t worry so much about not getting your dock.

  32. flshstar says:

We got our Samsung Vibrants on 10/12/10 and so far everything is working fine. GPS and all, rooted and wifi is working with Banacle wifi Legacy. It took me a week to really get to know this phone and I suspect most of the complainer is because of the users inability to either learn how to use it or fix whatever their problem with it.In my opinion its better than HTC HD2 and Nexus one. We traded 3 of our HTC HD2 and a Nexus One and we are happy with the Vibrants and this is without 2.2 updates yet!
