Some Quality Time With the Motorola Droid Xtreme

You’ve seen a “Regular” Droid, you’ve even seen an “Incredible” Droid, but now it looks like Motorola has an energy-drink chugging, skateboard loitering new model, the Motorola Droid Xtreme… and the guys over at Gadget University got to spend some quality time with this rip-snorter, which should be out in July.

According to the article, “the build quality is very similar to what we all expect from Motorola. SOLID.” They also go on to mention some aspects of the screen, saying that the quality and colors are much better than the original Droid. And at 4.3 inches, that’s exciting news. They did say that it is not an AMOLED screen, and may be the same type of IPS used on the original Droid. Click Read More to check out the specs and pictures

Let’s look at the main features:

  • 4.3″ Screen
  • 750MHz TI OMAP3630 Processor [unconfirmed]
  • Android 2.1
  • HDMI Out
  • New Moto Blur
  • Hardware Navigation Keys

If you’ve been following the speculations on the phone, you’ll notice the processor speed is (if their analysis is correct) not quite what some hoped it might be. It looks like Motorola ditched the 1GHz Snapdragon found in the original Droid and swapped it out for something with a little less juice…. perhaps a decision to help save some drowning battery life? Either way, 750MHz on a mobile device is nothing to scoff at.

They also mention that the new version of Moto Blur is “Not as bad as what you may think”. I hope not, because I, for one, have never been fond of the Moto Blur. Anything they may have done to improve on it is A-OK in my book.

An insider from Verizon let loose that these new phones should be hitting the streets within the next month, and that official training for Verizon Employees will be scheduled sometime at the end of this month.
