Here’s a BlackBerry error message you do not see each day… “Mobile equipment status failed”

Mobile equipment status failed

Here’s an additional 1 of those genuine globe stories turned CrackBerry blog post… last night Miss CrackBerry was on her BlackBerry Bold 9900 texting with her sister, when for some unknown reason out of no where she receives an error message saying Mobile equipment status failed. She showed it to me and asked me what it meant, to which I replied that I had no clue. Because my time on BlackBerry, that’s not a message I’ve actually ever personally skilled. It seemed the text message that failed still ultimately went by way of as her sister replied to it, but it was nonetheless an odd factor to see.

Googling around earlier right now I stumbled onto quite a few forum threads related to this subject (several in our own CrackBerry forums), but the view on the message and what it indicates seemed a bit muddled. Even though the phrase Mobile equipment status failed sounds like there’s some thing wrong with your phone’s hardware, it truly appears this message is related to the carrier having trouble with its network. Confident enough, it turns out the Rogers network did have some concerns yesterday which were most likely the cause of this error message getting displayed.

Questions of the Week:  1) Have you ever skilled this message ahead of?  two) If so, did you ever discover a really very good explanation of exactly what it indicates? and finally, 3) If it is related to the carrier’s network and not the phone’s hardware which seems to be case, why would RIM put such a weird sounding/stupid error message onto the OS that makes it sound like your telephone is broken?? Be positive to sound off in the comments with your answers!

Hey AT&T! Exactly where is our BlackBerry Bold 9900?!

Adam sets out to picket an AT&ampT shop in the name of the Bold 9900 and the CrackBerry Nation!

Soooo … it’s September 17th right now, and if you bear in mind from our 2nd to last podcast we declared nowadays AT&ampT picket day if the BlackBerry Bold 9900 didn’t show up. Following up on our petition to AT&ampT, I took matters into my own hands and blocked my day off to do my CrackBerry duty. With my Verizon Bold 9930 and Rogers Bold 9900 in hand and the power of the CrackBerry nation behind me, I set out for my nearby AT&ampT store to get my picket on. As you can see in the video above, the shop was entirely dead (since they don’t have the Bold 9900 .. duh) and regrettably they wouldn’t let me film inside. I did do some solo picketing for as lengthy as I could though. I don’t know if it helped our cause or not, but regardless … come on AT&ampT … give us the BlackBerry Bold 9900!!!

Did you head out to your nearby shop and picket today? Did you rally the troops? If not you nonetheless have time! Let us know in the comments — and if you haven’t signed our petition yet, what are you waiting for?!

Sprint BlackBerry Bold 9930 non-camera version launches on September 9th

BlackBerry Bold 9930 non-camera version launches on Sprint September 9th

Even though Verizon has had a non-camera version accessible given that launch, Sprint will now be releasing their non-camera version of the BlackBerry Bold 9930 on September 9th. While many folks can make use of the camera equipped versions, there is nonetheless somewhat of a demand in the enterprise sector for devices without cameras. Some employers just do not permit the use of camera equipped phones. Fewer and fewer device manufacturers are catering to this user base, rather relying on computer software locks and IT policies to block camera access. RIM could do that as nicely by means of the BES infrastructure but it is still nice to see separate devices getting made available.

Personally, if I by no means employed the camera on my device — I believe I’d opt for a non-camera version just for the cleaner appearance of it. No cost distinction is found in between the two versions but if you’re in need of a non-camera equipped BlackBerry and Sprint is your carrier you can get the BlackBerry Bold 9930 for $ 249 from Sprint beginning September 9th.

BlackBerry Difficult Shell Case for the BlackBerry Bold 9930 / 9900 Assessment

The BlackBerry Tough Shell Case for the BlackBerry Bold 9930 / 9900!

BlackBerry Bold 9930 / 9900 Hard Shell Case
Tough Shell Case + BlackBerry Bold 9930 / 9900 = Winning Mixture!

Following up my BlackBerry Soft Shell Case Assessment, I switched it up to the BlackBerry Tough Shell Case for the Bold 9930 / 9900. It is offered in two color options – black or white. In this evaluation I take a appear at the black version, but I’ll be positive to do up an additional photoshoot for the white one when I get my hands on it as it’s searching quite hawt!

Like the Soft Shell case, the Tough Shell case was created with tight tolerances and fits the phone perfectly, generating you virtually forget that there’s even a case on the telephone. If not for the cut outs for the headset jack, microUSB port and camera, you may possibly not even know there was a case on it. The Bold 9900/9930 is so thin to begin with, even with a case it doesn’t feel big. On a couple of occassions now I’ve handed my 9900 over to pals to check out. Right after letting them play with it a for a couple of minutes with case on, they were actually shocked when I then grabbed the phone back, took the case off, and handed them the phone back naked. That says a lot.

Overall both the Difficult Shell and Soft Shell situations deliver quite comparable experiences. The Challenging Shell case capabilities a difficult plastic back, featuring a bit of a dotted grid pattern that looks good, and it also gets the chromed BlackBerry logo like the actual phone has. It’s surely tougher than the Soft Shell case when protecting against bumps and drops. The soft touch rubber about the perimeter of the case is grippy and makes the buttons effortless to use. Finding the telephone in and out of the case isn’t challenging, which is a very good thing as if you also own a BlackBerry Charging Pod you will have to eliminate the telephone from the case. And if you are looking to use the incased Bold with a holster, even though it will not fit the 9900 holster it will fit into the original leather holster from the Bold 9000 (see this post for a lot more details).

The BlackBerry Bold 9930/9900 Challenging Shell case has a list cost of $ 29.99, but you can get it for much less at ShopCrackBerry.com. With such high demand for Bold 9930/9900 cases it’s been difficult to keep inventory in stock, but you can nonetheless order now for initial crack at the new shipments and we’re even giving away a chance for you to win 1 for totally free (particulars below). RIM Mistakingly Shows Off HTC Device In New Blackberry Promo Video [Lawl]

This image has no alt text

Awwww, appear — it’s the new Blackberry 9803647 pretending to be “hip” and “new.” How cute. Today, RIM released this promo video of a launch party held in honor of their latest dumbphone, showing off the all new OS it will be running (yawn). The new Blackberry can run games! And message! And — wait — is that an Android device in the video? Either I stepped into the Twilight Zone where HTC is creating the next Blackberry device or it seems RIM could have gotten a little confused with their own OS. In an attempt at displaying their new keyboard software (:15 and :27), RIM somehow managed to mix up their Blackberry 9763545 with an HTC device (looks like an Amazing 2). I know, a small slip-up but funny none-the-less. Can’t say how lengthy this video will remain up but back to the editing room, boys!

Thanks, Denis!

Tots for the BlackBerry PlayBook helps teach your kids about letters and numbers

We’ve seen many apps and games on the PlayBook that are geared towards children. I’m guessing developers are focussing on the Play in PlayBook. Honestly, a good tablet is a tablet that the whole family can share and enjoy. If you need another excuse to put a PlayBook in the hands of your child, then have a read. The Tots application helps your kids learn their letters and numbers and spelling, match upper and lower case letters and help them practice writing letters and numbers. It currently offers two themes; dinosaurs and flowers. It also has 4 different games to choose from – a whack-a-mole type game, catch letters to spell a word, write numbers and letters and associate upper case letters with their lower case versions.

To aid in the learning process, Tots provides both visual and audio positive reinforcement with each correct answer. The dangling light bulb in the right corner can be turned on or off to activate or deactivate in-game hints. The background music plays with simple childish levity that gives a fast paced feel to the game play. Isn’t it great when a game helps educate your child even when they don’t know it (or don’t want to be)? Tots is available for $ 2.99 from BlackBerry App World.

BlackBerry stands coming to a train station near you

BlackBerry Stand

BlackBerry UK has announced that it will be hitting several train stations with BlackBerry stands offering up services to help you get the most out of your device. If you can make it to a stand between 2-3pm you can also be in for a chance of picking up some goodies too, including tickets to see Tinie Tempah and Wretch 32, amongst other special guests. You can also get yourself a free cup of coffee.

The stands will be popping up in train stations around London, Manchester and Leeds, starting Monday 4th July until Tuesday 12th July. It looks like the main focus of these stands are to help customers update their BlackBerry devices. Probably most beneficial for those average Joe consumers who don’t hit up sites like our very own CrackBerry, where we have a whole host of BlackBerry 101′s to help you update your device’s OS. Of course, you can still drop by and try to bag yourself some goodies. I am little disappointed that there will be no stands making their way across the border, it would have been nice for BlackBerry to have at least come to one train station in Glasgow.

Below is a list of the train stations the stands will be visiting:

  • Free coffee at BlackBerry Stand (London St Pancras) – Monday 4th July
  • Free coffee at BlackBerry Stand (London Waterloo) – Tuesday 5th July
  • Free coffee at BlackBerry Stand (London Liverpool Street) – Wednesday 6th July
  • Free coffee at BlackBerry Stand (London Victoria) – Thursday 7th July
  • Free coffee at BlackBerry Stand (London Paddington) – Friday 8th July
  • Free coffee at BlackBerry Stand (Leeds Train Station)- Monday 11th July
  • Free coffee at BlackBerry Stand (Manchester Piccadilly) – Tuesday 12th July
