The BlackBerry PlayBook is pretty much the most anticipated BlackBerry device of all time. Even if you have no intentions on purchasing one it has certainly opened the eyes of BlackBerry fans everywhere and made them take a second look at what exactly, BlackBerry is doing and what their possible plans are for the future. Since we cannot as of yet, get our hands on the BlackBerry PlayBook the folks at BBIn have created us a pretty awesome PlayBook styled theme for the BlackBerry Torch 9800 and BlackBerry Bold 9700.

Leave a comment here, tell us what excites you most about the BlackBerry PlayBook and which device you need the theme for. We’ll pick 50 of you all from those comments and that’s it. Good luck to all those who enter and big thanks to BBIn sharing the love!
Ever been watching a video clip on your BlackBerry device and wish that you could take a screen shot of the scene to post to Twitter or send to a friend? Luckily these days are gone as VideoShots allows just this exact functionality with just a single click. Regardless of the media type, if your BlackBerry device will play it, VideoShots will allow you to take a screen shot of the single frame to save and share however you wish. If you love videos, and you love to share memories in everyway possible, this application is a must have for you. Check it out today in the CrackBerry Store for only $2.99.

JavaScript sometimes gets a bad rap. Accusations of page size bloating, superfluous effects and failure to gracefully degrade are common gripes. But the truth is that none of those things are inherent in JavaScript, they’re just common in bad web design.
Take page size for example. Sure, JQuery is big, but even tiny scripts can do some pretty amazing stuff. Proving that claim is exactly the point of JS1k, a recent contest to see what developers could create in less than one kilobyte of JavaScript.
Among the rules of JS1k: The files size must be under a kilobyte, the demo must work in Firefox, Safari, Chrome and Opera and external libraries were forbidden — short scripts that reference 30MB worth of external scripts were disallowed.
The contest winners were announced Tuesday at the JSCONF event in Berlin. The experiments are really incredible given the files size restrictions. The winner Legend Of The Bouncing Beholder, is an old-school arcade game reminiscent of early Mario Brothers games.
Other winners include a Tetris game, a multiplayer pong game and our personal favorite Mother Fucking Lasers. Head on over to see the rest of the demos and be amazed at what you can do with just 1k of code. Be sure to view source so you can see how these tiny scripts work.
Note that, as of this writing, the site is experiencing ridiculous traffic, so if you get a 503 error, check back later when things have calmed down.
As you all know I have been a bit pessimistic about Nokia and North America, but then wrote the post about not caring too much because I am a fanboy who is sticking with them anyway. It turns out that Nokia wasn’t just giving lip service to North America and is actually taking steps to reach out. They just announced the Calling All Innovators, North America contest in partnership with AT&T and are having a full Nokia Developer Day at CTIA in early October. I may just have to start developing apps so I can get a Nokia N8 developer pack too
This contest follows the very successful one that concluded at Nokia World 2010 and is designed for developers around the world to create apps for North American consumers. AT&T and Nokia will be the judges of the apps and each developer participating in the CTIA developer session, held in October, will receive a Nokia N8 developer pack from Nokia.
As stated by Purnima Kockikar, VP Forum Nokia:
The commitment from Nokia is a clear message that we are serious about the North American market. Developers have the tools, the support from AT&T and the marketing power of Nokia to get visibility for their apps. Additionally, developers can make their Qt-based app available in Ovi Store to Nokia customers globally reaching tens of millions of customers.
There are 17 categories for app submission and consumers will contribute to finalist selection with the number of downloads counting towards part of the winning criteria. Will AT&T be getting the Nokia N8 officially? It seems that we are going to need devices here to download these candidate apps and I can’t imagine Nokia wants us using the Nokia E71x to do so.
We’re at Phandroid LIVE and while everyone here votes on their favorite T-Shirt – which will be put into production with the winning designer earning $200 - you can also vote at home! So check out the following designs, vote for your favorite, and by the end of the night we’ll have the plan for the first ever Phandroid T-Shirt!
Sprint is accepting submissions through Nov. 5 and will recognize the top of the class in five categories: entertainment, gaming, productivity, social networking and multimedia. Sprint will score submissions based on creativity, intuitive navigation, functionality and design.
Winners in each category will receive a $50,000 grand prize, an HTC Corp. EVO 4G with a year of service, a one-year membership to the Sprint Professional Developer Program and an invite to WIRED’s VIP party during the 2011 International CES in Las Vegas. The winning apps will be announced and showcased Dec. 16 at the WIRED store in New York.
The WiMAX Innovation Network initially covered more than 20 square miles in Silicon Valley. The plan was to give 4G developers a head start on commercial service launching in the Bay Area in 2010.
A number of bands have created music videos by stitching together a series of Street View images. The gmapify blog has created a great tutorial explaining how you can create your own Street View videos. The Wilderness Downtown incorporates your address in their music video (requires Chrome Browser).
Check out the Review, then Leave a Comment for your chance to win an iGrip Car Charging Dock for the BlackBerry Torch! We’re giving away 1 a day for 30 days!
This is probably one of the coolest BlackBerry accessories I’ve tested out so far. The iGrip car charging dock for the Torch 9800 mounts to the windshield or dash in your car and lets you easily drop in your Torch so you can use a navigation app on the go. I fired up AT&T Navigator while my Torch was in the dock and I have to say its just as good (if not better) than having a separate GPS unit. The dock is totally solid and stays secure so you don’t have to worry about it dropping off the window. I really like the latch that secures down over the Torch once inserted – it ensures the phone is held secure whether used in landscape or portrait mode. When you get to wherever you’re going, just pull your device out and take it with you. The video above is a bit of hand-on with the dock as well as a bit of in-car action to see just how it works. As of right now the iGrip BlackBerry Torch charging dock is only available via Smartphone Experts, so click on over to learn more and pick one up at ShopCrackBerry.com today!

Today Verizon amped up the hype machine on the upcoming Special Edition Droid R2-D2. This highly anticipated piece of hardware will be available exclusively online on September 30th but for eight lucky and hard working sleuths it will come free. Verizon has launched a viral contest today that will gradually leak “lost schematics” for the phone as fans decipher clues given through Twitter (@DroidLanding). There are eight schematics to be uncovered which are currently inactive links on the Droid R2-D2 website.
Device Gallery
Apps + Widgets
Wallpapers
Exclusive Video
Boot-Up Sequence
R2-D2 Soundboard
Home Screens
Enhancescan App
The first clue has already been given through Twitter, Attack Pattern Alpha. After putting the URL for that page in the C-3P0 tweet translator on the Droid R2-D2 website you will be redirected to the Picasa web gallery of Luka Kurtz, where you will find pictures of Luke and Porkins in their X-Wings. Unfortunately this is as far as the hunt has gone to this point and no lost schematics have been uncovered at this point. What do you guys think of this? Will you be getting involved or sitting this one out? Let us know in the comments.

My main T-Mobile phone is currently the Nokia E73 Mode (see our Guide) and I just can’t give it up because it is so pocketable, focused on messaging, and gives me everything I really find essential on my smartphone. I started eating healthier and exercising more a few months ago and have lost over 20 pounds so far with my primary exercise of jogging. I have been using an Andoid device with Runkeeper for tracking my running, but was just sent an email that will have me using the Nokia E73 soon. The newly revamped Sports Tracker service and application is now up and running so get on those shoes and start sharing your workouts.
You can find the Sports Tracker application for your compatible S60 3rd and 5th Edition device in the Ovi Store. The Sports Tracker application can be used with the GPS in your smartphone to track things like calories burned while running and cycling speed over altitude changes. You can find a compatible heart rate monitor in the Sports Tracker shop so you can keep track and ensure you are reaching your heart rate goals as you workout.
Nokia is having a Sports Tracker competition launch contest where the first place winner gets an exclusive Ovi skateboard deck. Other prizes include heart rate belts, Ovi t-shirts, water bottles, and more swage. I like the looks of that green to white t-shirt and will be entering soon myself.
The competition is rather interesting since you need to make a funny or interesting shape with your Sports Tracker workout and share it publicly. This means you need to run, walk, skip, bike, skate, etc. in a unique route to create an interesting shape for the contest. I am going to have to give this some thought before heading out on the road to track my workout. They will pick the top 10 and then have you vote in a poll on the Ovi blog. You have to do this quickly as the contest ends in one week on Thursday, 19 August.
Hey, Kids and Teens! If you love to read, add one more book to your summer reading list and you’ll have the chance to win some pretty cool prizes. Joanne Manaster of Joanne Loves Science and Jeff Shaumeyer of Scienticity have teamed up to encourage kids to read science books. There are two contests, split up by age ranges: Kids Read Science is for ages 8-12, and Teens Read Science is for ages 13-18. The rules are the same, and pretty simple:
Choose a non-fiction book about nature, science, engineering, or math, or about people who work or worked in those fields. The book should help you understand more about what science is and how it works. Textbooks are not acceptable choices. If you need suggestions it’s good to ask a science teacher or librarian for ideas.
Read your book.
Make a video about your book. The video must be less than 5 minutes long, and must give the name of the book, the name of the author, and reasons why you would or would not recommend the book to your friends.
Post the video online. We’d prefer that you post it to your own account on YouTube.com and tag it with “KidsReadScience2010″ or “TeensReadScience2010″ . There are other posting options in the long form of the rules.
Fill out our official online submission form so we can find your video and so we know how to contact you if you win one of our fabulous prizes.
Do all this before the deadline: 11pm (CDT) on 22 September 2010.
Some of the prizes include an iPod touch for the teens, quality-optics binoculars for the kids, iTunes gift cards, T-shirts, and signed copies of science books (including the intriguingly-How to Defeat Your Own Clone). Check the prize list for more details.
