HTC Released Gingerbread source Code for Flyer, Desire Z, and Incredible S

HTC continues to lay the foundation for opening up Android. In addition to promising the unlocking of boot loaders for future phones (EVO 3D and Sensation owners are eagerly waiting for this) they have now released further source code for the Flyer (7-inch tablet) Extraordinary S and desire Z.

Whilst the source code for these models has been hacked for fairly some time and the flashing community has numerous options of custom ROMs to select from for these devices, it does show HTC’s commitment to offering a really open sourced product. Whilst this release won’t be shaking the foundation of its rivals developers for Android will wake up to the smell of new source code, and for a developer there’s absolutely nothing like waking up to the smell of freshly released source code.

Aria, Desire Z, Desire HD And MyTouch 4G Source Code Released By HTC

Are you a nerd or phone geek and want to get your hands on the source code for some of HTC’s high end devices?  Yeah, me too.  Alright, I wouldn’t exactly call the Aria a “high end device” either, but you know what I mean.  Head on over to HTC’s Developer Center via the source link where you’ll find source code for the HTC Aria, Desire Z, Desire HD and the MyTouch 4G.  We’re hoping that those of you who are “programatically” inclined will do some awesome things with it, all in the name of Android.  As expected, any proprietary code will be omitted from the source.  We can’t wait to see what comes out of this.  Let us know what you think in the comments below.

HTC Evo 4G and Desire HD gets Honeycomb Ported

htc_honeycomb-300x150

Android developers usually don’t like to wait around for a carrier or manufacturer to get the good stuff going on new OS’s. Probably why they send out the SDK’s anyway, get the hard work done by someone else more determined to fix it.

The two videos below highlight Honeycomb ported to teh HTC Evo 4G and the Desire HD, and although none of the buttons work properly, and the OS seems pretty sluggish at times, it still a few steps in the right direction.

Have a watch below and click the source links for details.

This image has no alt text

Amazon comes through in the clutch again! This time, they’ve thrown the HTC Desire S – a followup to the original Desire  that adds a front-facing camera and a new chipset – onto their website. You can pre-order it with them now and have it in your hands on April 18th, according to them. We’d already heard that a good amount of their devices would be coming within a month’s time, but it’s good to get some cold, hard facts. [Amazon UK, Thanks Ally!]

Huge Spec Leak: Wildfire 2, Desire 2, Desire HD2, and Galaxy S2

This image has no alt text

Aside from the fact that all of these phones have the number “2″ in them, something amazing has happened – specs for the HTC Wildfire 2, HTC Desire 2, HTC Desire HD2, and the Samsung Galaxy S2 have all been leaked. Pocketnow is our benefactor today. Let’s dive in.

The Samsung Galaxy S2 will not have Samsung’s dual-core Orion chipset as we once hoped it would, but it does have Qualcomm’s 1.2GHz dual-core Snapdragon. Samsung likely went this route due to their chipset not being ready in time, but we thought they’d be going with NVIDIA earlier on.

It houses the same Adreno 205 GPU found in the Scorpion processor. As expected, it’ll have an 8 megapixel camera that can record HD video. It’ll have 16GB of internal storage and 512 MB of RAM to round out its performance specs. The display is said to be Super AMOLED and will be nearly 4.3 inches.

The Desire HD2 will have a qHD Super LCD display (the slide says it’ll be 3.3 inches, but I have a feeling that’s not quite accurate) and Qualcomm’s MSM8260 Snapdragon dual-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz with an Adreno 205 GPU. It, too, has an 8 megapixel camera with HD video recording – no surprise there – and will have 8GB of internal storage and 512 MB of RAM.

The Desire 2 is a bit less powerful with a 1GHz Qualcomm 8250 processor – this one isn’t dual-core and has the older Adreno 200 GPU. It also has a 3.7 inch qHD Super LCD display, an 8 megapixel camera with HD video recording, 8GB of internal storage, and 512 MB of RAM.

Finally, the Wildfire 2 is indeed real and will unsurprisingly be the slowest of the bunch with a 600MHz Qualcomm MSM7227 processor and an Adreno 200 GPU. It has a 3.2 inch TFT HVGA display, a 5 megapixel camera with no HD recording capabilities, only 384 MB of RAM, and little internal storage to work with.

Pocketnow has the full suite of slides if you want to know the rest.

#CES2011 HTC Inspire 4G, the Desire HD we’ve been waiting for in the US

HTC announced three new models this year at CES, and in a private event we got our grubby little mits on all three. This one is the Inspire 4G heading to AT&T later this year on their recently renamed 4G network. The Insipre 4G is a rebadged Desire HD with all of the same features we’ve seen before. There is no doubt this evo 4G like device is nice and it feels solid in your hand. Unfortunately, the model we played with was missing the battery so we couldn’t see it in action but being familiar with the software from playing with the Thunderbolt 4G, there wouldn’t be much else to report.

I absolutely love the time and effort HTC puts into making quality products that stand out and it really shows in this model. One interesting bit of info on this device is not only does the battery load in the side by removing a side cover, but the bottom cover is also removable to access the SD card slot. It’s nice to see AT&T finally getting some high end Android devices and it will be interesting to see if they lock the device down as they are known to do.

North American Desire HD Passes Through FCC

This image has no alt text

desire-hd-fcc-label
Eight days ago MobileSyrup treated us to an image of the Desire HD with a Telus Logo on the boot screen. Now Engadget has dug up the FCC filing HTC put in for this device. Adding these two bits together and we have some potentially great news for Telus users.

Expect this device to be loaded with Telus’ 3G frequencies, meaning users that can’t do without this device can use it on AT&T, Bell and Rogers.

HTC Desire HD gets FCC approval, could be destined for American 3G or Telus

The HTC Desire HD, a beast of an Android phone that has yet to make it to the North American continent, has been approved by the FCC. The FCC approval documented a device with model number PD98120 that supports WCDMA Bands II and V, which means it can be used on AT&T, Bell, Telus, and Rogers.

Since it has already been rumored that Telus would receive the HTC Desire HD, this recent FCC approval only supports that theory even more.

Launch date, pricing and carrier are all still a mystery.

Customers in Saudi Arabia have been eagerly awaiting the launch of these new models. As far as the HTC Desire HD is concerned, I am confident that they will fully appreciate the new features and applications that we have introduced, especially its more engaging, intuitive, user-friendly design. We have likewise retained the attention-grabbing features of the phone, taking advantage of the powerful Android platform and the latest version of HTC Sense2.0, which has become a major hit among smartphone users

Neeraj Seth, MENA Marketing Manger, HTC Middle East & North Africa says that “The Saudi market has always been extremely receptive to HTC products which makes the Kingdom vital to our market consolidation plans in the region.”

Hong Kong carrier CSL to offer HTC Desire HD exclusively

The Desire HD is pretty much the top dog in HTC’s line-up of Android phones, if not of all current Android phones, so it comes as no surprise that carriers would be ecstatic to be the sole provider of this flagship device.  That’s exactly what Hong Kong carrier CSL will have up its sleeve, for they will be the only shop in town to offer the Desire HD in their market via their one2free and 1O1O brands.

As long as CSL has the network to back up this beefy, bandwidth beast, and offers it at reasonable price, I’m sure they will have customers lining up at the doors to have the HTC Desire HD in their hands this holiday season.

Virgin Media releases Android 2.2 for the HTC Desire

Do you hear that? That’s the sound of thousands of happy Android owners cheering in unison. UK’s Virgin Media has finally updated its HTC Desire to Android 2.2, and will begin pushing an OTA update to customers in the coming days. From the announcement:

Hi I can confirm that we’ve started sending out the Froyo update as of 9am this morning, however this is only for customers on our Virgin specific firmware (1.23.351.1). Customers on the original firmware (1.15.405.4) will need an update to the 1.23.351.1 firmware first before they can install the Froyo update, but we expect this should be available in the next few days. I’ll post another update here once it goes live.

This is an FOTA (Firmware Over The Air) update which means that you will be prompted to download the update on their handset. We strongly recommend that you use a Wi-Fi connection to download the update. You’ll be asked if you want to back up your handset first, and we recommend this as well.

So with 2.2, Virgina Media Desire owners will be getting wi-fi hotspot abilities, 720p video recording support, and Adobe’s Flash Player 10.1. Sounds like a pretty good update to me!

There was a small update done not to long ago that addressed some screen issues people were having on their new Desire HDs. I’m not to certain how well that all went for everyone since this update is reported as having a screen fix in it as well. The update also includes a fix for issues with Youtube. If you haven’t already received the update then go a head and check for it. The newest update version is 1.32.405.6.

Please let us know if this solves your issues on this magnificent device. I hope you won’t have to wait for another screen fix update.

TELUS moves HTC Desire Froyo update ahead in Q4

After a few short minutes, TELUS pulled the Froyo upgrade down for HTC Desire users and postponed it until sometime “in the near future in Q4″. Must have been something that they found wrong with it, but at least it still coming this year. I guess that will have to do!

Bell Launching HTC Desire Z November 3rd

Just yesterday we learned the Desire Z would be launching on Bell and now today, thanks to BGR, we hear that that the Desire Z will be available on November 3rd,.  The HTC Sense version of the G2 will be ready to pull down data at speeds up to 14.4 Mbps on Bell’s HSPA+ network.  That makes it the first handset in Canada to even think about operating at those sort of speeds. No subsidized pricing is listed on this leak, but off-contract pricing is set at $499.99. Damn good pricing if you ask me.

Anyone in Canada want this handset? Let us know below!

HTC Desire HD Starts Shipping in Holland

HTC recently announced two new successors to its best-seller the Desire. The first one, named Desire Z, was equal to the T-Mobile G2. The second one was absolutely the most impressive Android ever seen. This beast features a 4.3″ capacitive screen, a 1GHz Snapdragon-processor and 768 MB of RAM. You thought your EVO 4G was impressive? This handset is on par or better!

First, there was a big release-delay caused by Google, angering the customers who already pre-ordered their new phones, but today the first units of the Desire HD started shipping in Holland. On a Dutch forum a few users reported that the Vodafone shops are having the Desire HD in stock and they are quite satisfied with it. We will try to get one of those as soon as possible.
