Motorola DROID Bionic Sign-Up Page Is Live

This image has no alt text

Hot on the heels of those newly leaked Motorola Bionic pics we posted for you guys earlier today, is this new sign-up page on Verizon Wireless for the device. All you have to do is enter your email address in the box and Verizon will notify when the Bionic arrives. Once again, this can only add more fuel to the fire that we’re getting close, folks. The eve of the Bionic is almost upon us and if that leaked Verizon doc pans out, we could see the device drop on Sept. 8th.

Something tells me we’ll by notifying you of the Bionic release a lot sooner than Verizon does — but hey, it’s always good to have that second reminder.

The Motorola Droid Bionic will be delayed again

The Droid Bionic is 1 of the most anticipated phones, but I am starting to wonder if it will live up to the hype. We have been expecting it to launch on August 4, but according to a Sam’s Club document, it will be in September.

Absolutely nothing is confirmed, but I am not expecting it to land on August 4th because I it is most likely Verizon and Motorola will hold a key press event to announce the phone, which is likely to be at least two weeks prior to the release. Correct now there is absolutely nothing scheduled.

I also anticipate them to launch a significant Twitter campaign like they have carried out with most of the best Droid phones. This will be the biggest Droid release to date so we need to anticipate the very same. Even if they don’t do a press event, they will at least run the Twitter campaign, and until that begins, there is no require to commence lining up at your nearest Verizon shop. The Droid Charge campaign started 8 days prior to the launch so we need to see one thing by this Wednesday. I know a lot of people want to believe the August four date, especially given that some accessories had been leaked at Amazon, but I am not holding my breath.

Also to note, the LG Thrill is showing as late July, but we reported earlier that all signs point to August 7, and the Samsung Conquer was originally expected to launch yesterday, but it has been pushed to August. The Motorola Photon seems to nonetheless be on track for July 31, which was officially announced by Sprint.

Amazon Gives Away Droid Bionic’s Secrets

Amazon not only has a listing for a automobile and desktop dock for the highly anticipated Droid Bionic, but they have pictures with the phone included. Oops. The extremely anticipated phone should be coming soon, and TalkAndroid thinks it’ll be here by August 4th. The front of the phone doesn’t appear too significantly diverse, but is it just me or does the back really appear kind of sexy? Hit the break to see the other photos.

Droid Incredible 2 Users Receiving Gingerbread Update Now

This image has no alt text

That’s right. We reported on Friday that Droid Incredible 2 users would be getting their taste of Gingerbread sometime this week and according to our Phantips, some lucky users are able to pull their OTA update.

To check if Gingerbread is ready for your Incredible 2, simply jump into your phone’s Settings and go to System Updates then Check New. You should then be prompted to download 116MB Gingerbread update and install. As always, make sure your battery has a full charge before attempted the update and if you want to be really safe, backup your apps and sync before updating.

Let us know in the comments if you’ve received the update!

Thanks, Jon!

Motorola Droid 3 Now Available from Verizon?

This image has no alt text

Droid 3 is now available from Verizon wireless. Well, sorta. Jumping onto Verizon’s “Droid Does” page will give you this flashy flash page showing off all of the features and specs of Motorola’s latest qwerty offering. Only problem, clicking on the “Buy Now” button will take you to a page displaying “The selection you made is unavailable at this time.” So what gives?

Well, I’ve been hearing reports from a few lucky people who got in touch with Verizon telesales by dialing 611 on their handsets and were actually able to purchase the device. If the service rep is having a hard time locating the device in their system give them a hand with the part number “Droid 3 MOTXT862.” Might speed things up a bit.

Rumor has it the device wasn’t going to be released until July 14th but it looks like you might be able to snag it now? This phone is looking absolutely beastly. Good luck and let us know if you were able to purchase!

Galaxy S II to Sell More Units Than Droid Bionic?

Mashwork, a social media listening firm, has apparently gathered some social data regarding both the Galaxy S II and the Droid Bionic, and the hype seems to be pointed toward the S II. Apparently, 68% of the group that Mashwork collected data from are interested in buying the Galaxy S II when it lands Stateside, while 32% are interested in shelling out the money for a Droid Bionic. So, underneath all the numbers and data mumbo jumbo, the Galaxy S II appears to be a better-selling device than the Bionic, even though both devices have yet to be released in the U.S. It seems that Samsung has a leg up on Motorola with this one, as more people want to buy the GS II.

Now, this is only based on a small group of people, and it could change once both devices launch. Still no official launch date for the Bionic, but it’s definitely headed for a record. It was announced back at CES in January, and 6 months later, it has yet to hit shelves. And if Sammy has anything to say about it, the Bionic won’t be on shelves for very long.

Anyone surprised that the Galaxy S II is more popular than the Bionic? Sound off in the comments below, or on our Facebook Wall!

Droid 3 on Track for July 14 Debut

The Motorola Droid 3 looks to be arriving just a few weeks from now, and shortly after Verizon stops offering unlimited data plans.  According to information obtained by DroidAttic, the “Next Generation of Does” will in stock on July 13th, presumably on sale the next day.  This means that any new customers to Verizon will be unable to get the Motorola handset with unlimited access to Big Red’s network.  However, those of you who are holding on to your grandfathered plan, well you’ll be alright.  The last we heard you’ll be able to upgrade with losing your rates.

Dev Community Brings First Custom ROM to Droid Charge

The Droid Charge has been out just over a week, and is a solid device. Samsung has always given us fairly “moddable” phones, and have been doing it for quite a while…it’s not a huge surprise that the mod community is quick to pounce, successfully, on a custom ROM.

Netflix for Android Updated with Support for New Devices Including Original Droid, Blocks Access for Rooted Users?

This image has no alt text

Netflix has just launched an update to their Android app coinciding with the launch of the LG Revolution for Verizon. The Revolution ships with the movie streaming service pre-installed, but it isn’t the only Verizon handset gaining support for the app. The original Motorola Droid and the Casio G’zOne Commando have been added to the list of supported devices, adding to a handful of HTC and Samsung handsets already prepped for instant access to Netflix video.

While we haven’t been able to confirm, we have been receiving reports that this update might also come with a very big downside. Netflix might be jumping on board with Google Movies and Blockbuster, blocking rooted devices from accessing video streams. One user with a rooted HTC Incredible — one of the first handsets to gain Netlix support — received the following error message after launching the update:

It looks like Netflix has been deactivated on this device. It could be an issue with your account or perhaps your device was deactivated on netflix.com

After checking on his desktop, the same user verified that his Netflix account was still in working order, leaving us to believe something may, in fact, be going on. We must stress again that this is unverified information, but we felt it worth mentioning. Any other rooted users out there losing access to Netflix once updating their app? Let us know in the comments below.

[Thanks, romma, Neil, and JDog for sending this through!]

Motorola preparing Droid X project, could be Gingerbread

If you are a member of the Motorola Owner User Groups and own a Droid X, you might have received the above invitation for a new confidential project.

Upon signing up you will be informed that there is going to be a soak (beta test) for May 2011. Although it is not confirmed, I think it is safe to say that this is for the Gingerbread (Android 2.3.3) update which we know is ready.

Motorola usually implements soak testing about 1 week before the actual release. If this is the Gingerbread update, then it will probably be rolled out to all Droid X owners by the 1st or 2nd week of June. Stay tuned.

Motorola Droid CommandOne Spotted in Retail Packaging

This image has no alt text

It looks like the Droid lineup is about to expand to accessories as well. More specifically, the Motorola CommandOne Bluetooth headset we first saw at CES way back in January looks to be getting some marketing help with the addition of Droid branding. The compact and sleek headset should make a perfect companion to your Droid handset or other Android phone. No release date is set as of now.

HTC Droid Incredible 2: White With Chrome Rim, Contoured Back, Global 3G [RUMOR]

This image has no alt text

It seems we’ve hit the Verizon Wireless rumor motherload with info one of the hottest sequels you could imagine. Listen up folks, this stuff is hot off the presses from one of our trusted sources.

HTC Droid Incredible 2 with Global 3G

The first HTC Incredible has been one of the most successful Android Phones to date. It’s incredibly versatile and can be considered top of the line with nearly every target market – I found myself recommending it to men, women, teens and everyone in between. Now I’ll be recommending the HTC Incredible 2 (codenamed Vevo) to world travelers as the Incredible 2 comes with Global 3G Connectivity. This could be thanks to a new Qualcomm chip that supports both HSPA and CDMA.

But that’s not all… apparently the Droid Incredible 2 will be white with a white chrome rim and contoured back. Tell me that won’t make for a bad ass sequel to the original DINC!

We’ll keep you posted as we get more details and hopefully pictures to boot. These are still rumors as of now… but we have very good reason to believe their absolutely true and we’re eager to bring you evidence. Stay tuned!

This image has no alt text

We just provided the exclusive rumored details of the Droid Incredible 2 and it seems some other popular Verizon Androids are coming in the very near future, too. One of our trusted tipsters is telling us the Droid 3 and Droid X2 will both come in the 2nd Quarter along with the Samsung Stealth. Here are some details we’ve learned of each:

  • Motorola Droid 3: 4-inch screen with QHD resolution (960 by 540 pixel resoultion - same as Bionic), slideout QWWERTY keyboard
  • Motorola Droid X2: Didn’t gather any details
  • Samsung Stealth: This is the Samsung 4G LTE as seen at CES

The Droid 3 and Droid X 2 are sure to turn some heads if not only because their predecessors commanded the attention of the masses. I don’t doubt these versions will be equally as exciting. It seems like we’ve hit a motherload of Verizon Wireless rumors and now we’ll eagerly await hard evidence in the form of pictures and videos and hopefully official confirmation before long. Hey – Mobile World Congress is right around the corner so maybe it’ll be a short wait!

Verizon Drops Price of Incredible, R2-D2 Droid 2

We’re getting word from the guys over at Engadget that Big Red has dropped some prices. The  Droid Incredible and Droid 2 R2-D2 edition are now $100. Verizon had lowered the price of the Fascinate to $100 as well, but it was only for yesterday, January 31st. It can’t be a coincidence that just last week, we saw a Droid Incredible successor in the wild, and now the price has been lowered. Take from that what you will. Anyway, Verizon is having “ten days of sweet deals” from now until the iPhone 4 launches on February 10th, so keep your eyes open for some awesome deals on Android devices. Stay tuned to AndroidGuys for any more device price changes! Anyone going to pick up an Incredible or Droid 2 R2-D2 today?

Motorola Droid Bionic shows up on Amazon for only $149

droid-bionic-amazon

The Motorola Droid Bionic has hit Amazon for a sweet price of $149.99 on a 2-year contract with Verizon. The Droid Bionic was one of the elite devices shown at CES, and got some great benchmarking numbers as well. The device showing up on Amazon already may mean that the device is much closer to launch than the original “end of Q2″ with Verizon as previously stated. The page seen above has however been pulled down shortly after it was up, so we’re not sure when it’s going live again.

We’ll keep you all posted! Keep your wallets ready.

Motorola Droid Bionic tested and kicking butt

droidbionic

At CES 2011, talkandroid was there and got to play with the impressive Motorola Droid Bionic. It is a sweet little device, as you can tell in our Hands-On video here. To add to it’s awesomeness, some others got to run some benchmarks on it, and not surprisingly, it put up some kick butt numbers in comparison to other “top devices” currently on the market as you can see below.
Droid_Bionic_Quadrant

There’s many tools out there to benchmark an Android device, but Quadrant seems to be the favorite, scoring the Droid Bionic 2284 putting it well above other previously released Android smartphones.
Check the full test video from CES below.

DROID Incredible Helps Stop a Bullet

This image has no alt text

If someone were to tell you that your cell phone could stop a speeding bullet from penetrating your skin, would you believe them? Yea, me neither. That’s probably what a valet for an Atlanta nightclub thought when purchasing his DROID Incredible. He probably didn’t even think he’d ever be put into a situation where his life would be at stake at the hand of a gun as a valet. Thankfully, whatever scumbag shot him didn’t know that he had one of the toughest Android phones in the market sitting in his pocket. (Remember the DROID Incredible that got burned alive and still lived to make phone calls?) Anyway, the battery is what ultimately did the trick in saving this man from what would  have otherwise been a very horrible tragedy. Video below if you’re interested.

Droid Incredible Not Just For Phone Calls, Stops Bullets Too.

And you thought Android phones were just for making calls.  Well, the folks over at AP have posted a video of an extremely fortunate young man whose Droid Incredible battery saved his life.  John Garber, a valet for Club Halo in Atlanta, was leaving the premises when two other members, who were recently thrown out, began firing at one another outside the club.  A shot fired in Garbers direction hit him in the chest where his HTC Droid Incredible prevented the bullet from ultimately penetrating anything beyond his jacket.  It’s safe to say that HTC definitely makes some reliable hardware, don’t you think?  Only God knows what would have happened to that poor guy if he was carrying a Windows Phone 7 device.  Check out the video for the full account.

Motorola DROID Bionic for Verizon spotted Online

Today on Motorola’s website we found a very nice little device showing its self off. This device is called the DROID Bionic. Again with the DROID names huh? Well it has worked so far for Motorola and Verizon, why not keep it up.

The device will support 1GB of RAM coupled with a dual-core processor, an 8 MP camera and a 4.3″ screen. From the looks of the back of the device there is a dual LED flash as well. I am not sure if I was having system issues or if Motorola managed to disable a lot of the page, but I wasn’t able to get any more insight from them then what is available on the main page. At this time I am unsure on Android OS version or other specific facts.

It does look pretty promising though. Hopefully we will get a better glimpse of this device at CES. Stay tuned for more information as it unfolds.
