This image has no alt text

After a German court denied Samsung’s request for a preliminary hearing and honored Apple’s request for an injunction, banning sales of the Galaxy Tab 10.1 in many parts of Europe, a date has been set for the legal dispute to be settled. On August 25th Samsung will have its day in court and argue their case in hopes of having the ban lifted. Get the Original Samsung Galaxy Tab from K-Mart for $99

With the likes of the Toshiba Thrive, the Motorola Xoom, and the new Galaxy 10.1 getting out and about, it’s straightforward to forget Samsung’s original Galaxy Tab tablet, despite its somewhat current update to Gingerbread. Nonetheless, for those seeking to get a pretty excellent tablet on the inexpensive, you can’t do significantly much better than K-Mart’s deal: the aforementioned Galaxy Tab for a mere $ 99. Even greater, there’s no mail-in rebate. Naturally this offer comes with the usual caveats of a two year contract and monthly service, but these are fairly minor and that cellular service can be fairly handy, even without the 4geez. Anyone planning cashing in on this deal? Let us know in the comments!

Leaked Pics of Sprint’s Galaxy S II Surface – Say Hello to the Samsung Within

This image has no alt text

Good. Gawd. And not right after I posted my review on how content I was with the Evo 3D, this shows up in my inbox. Thanks to TIMN, what you have in front of you are some freshly leaked, blurry cam pics of the Samsung Within. This is the eagerly anticipated Samsung Galaxy S II for North America and it just so happens to be for my favorite carrier, Sprint. (Excuse me while I scream out my window)

Now that we got that out of the way, we don’t have much else to go on other than these pics here. You can see Sprint’s branding not only on the backside of the device, but on the software as well. The familiar (and nearly indestructible) Galaxy S II texture battery cover is easily recognized as well as the diplayed 8MP camera. Word on the street is this will launch with Android 2.3.4 so you can expect Google Talk video chat right out of the box.

Let us hope (and pray) this new leak is a sign the launch date is just around the corner because it looks like this device might be all ready for shipping to Sprint stores very soon. Sprint is coming in hot this summer with the release of the Motorola Photon 4G in a few more weeks. Anyone else excited to finally get their hands on this device?

Samsung Galaxy Tab Gingerbread Update Begins Rolling Out to Sprint Users

This image has no alt text

The original Samsung Galaxy Tab might not have the hardware to stack up against the newly released Galaxy Tab 10.1, but thanks to an update rolling out today at least one carrier-branded version of the 7-inch slate will get a fresher build of Android that might restore some of its appeal. It isn’t the tablet-specific Honeycomb, but the Android 2.3 update should breath some new life into Samsung’s first Android tablet.

Maintenance release EF17 is now going out to Sprint users, with the update expected to reach all owners of their Galaxy Tab within four days. Anyone out there receive their piece of Gingerbread yet?

Galaxy S II Reached 3 Million Units Sold, Still Climbing

Well, we honestly can’t say we’re surprised. If you look at the success of the original Galaxy S, it’s no shocker that its successor would sell. At any rate, Samsung has announced that they’ve officially sold over 3 million Galaxy S II units, just 55 days after its release. If you do a little math, that’s one Galaxy S II sold every one and a half seconds. The S II also managed to outdo the original Galaxy S, which took 85 days to break the 3 million mark.

This is all well and good, but it’s a far cry from Sammy’s goal of 60 million units by the end of the year. Bottom line: they’ve got some work to do. So with that being said, who out there owns a Galaxy S II? Are you happy with your device? Sound off in the comments below, or on our Facebook Wall! We look forward to your feedback!

Rumor: Samsung to Launch Faster Galaxy S II in September

This rumor details an updated version of Samsung’s Galaxy S II flagship phone, giving it a 1.4GHz dual-core processor instead of the current 1.2GHz.

Apparently, Samsung is preparing an updated version of its Exynos chipset. It will keep the same GPU and RAM, but the processor speed will be bumped. The new chipset could be included in an NFC-capable version of the handset, or perhaps a new smartphone entirely.

ITProPortal claims this bump in speed is so Sammy can better compete with Apple’s upcoming iPhone 5, which is also expected in September. Of course, this is only speculation at the moment, and nothing is set in stone.

So, do we have any Galaxy S II owners out there? How will you feel if this updated smartphone is an exact replica of yours, with NFC and a faster processor? Let us know in the comments or over on our Facebook Wall!

Is the Samsung Galaxy S II getting a bump of 200 Mhz?

Sources in Asia are reporting that Samsung is gearing towards launching a newer version of its Galaxy S II phone that will give it a 200 Mhz boost. That would bring it to a whopping 1.4Ghz dual-core processor.

According to the reports the reason is because of the IPhone 5 release. If you remember, earlier in the year, Samsung made major changes to the Galaxy Tab 10.1 to go head to head with the IPad 2. That was mostly cosmetic, but you have to give Samsung credit for recognizing where they need to be to go against the competition. That is how you become a big player in the smartphone market.

The only thing that is not determined is if this will be in the current device or a different version, but it is expected to debut sometime in August or September.

One of the rumors is suggesting that they will change the name of the phone and not market it with the Galaxy branding. What is also most interesting is how this fits in with U.S. We all know that the Galaxy S II will hit the U.S. soon, and with the IPhone 5 releasing sometime in August or September, could these changes be for the US market? If they don’t plan on marketing it under the Galaxy branding, it makes sense, because you will not see that branding here in the U.S.

Galaxy S II to Sell More Units Than Droid Bionic?

Mashwork, a social media listening firm, has apparently gathered some social data regarding both the Galaxy S II and the Droid Bionic, and the hype seems to be pointed toward the S II. Apparently, 68% of the group that Mashwork collected data from are interested in buying the Galaxy S II when it lands Stateside, while 32% are interested in shelling out the money for a Droid Bionic. So, underneath all the numbers and data mumbo jumbo, the Galaxy S II appears to be a better-selling device than the Bionic, even though both devices have yet to be released in the U.S. It seems that Samsung has a leg up on Motorola with this one, as more people want to buy the GS II.

Now, this is only based on a small group of people, and it could change once both devices launch. Still no official launch date for the Bionic, but it’s definitely headed for a record. It was announced back at CES in January, and 6 months later, it has yet to hit shelves. And if Sammy has anything to say about it, the Bionic won’t be on shelves for very long.

Anyone surprised that the Galaxy S II is more popular than the Bionic? Sound off in the comments below, or on our Facebook Wall!

Unlock Samsung Galaxy S 2 For Use On AT&T Or T-Mobile

This image has no alt text

Sometimes there are those phones overseas that are just so appealing, you may want to get them shipped over stateside. Thanks to overseas phone’s being based off the GSM technology (SIM cards) it makes them compatible with GSM carriers like AT&T and T-Mobile here in the US. Normally, you would have to make sure the phone in question is “unlocked” so that it will work with your carrier or go through the hassle of calling the original carrier or taking the device to a shop to be unlocked by a professional. Well, apparently the original Samsung Galaxy S line of phones made this process extremely easy by storing the unlock code inside the phone. This code could then be extracted thanks to a handy app found on XDA allowing you to use these imported phones on either AT&T or T-Mobile.

Well, it looks like Samsung hasn’t changed much and their overseas Galaxy S 2 handsets still provide that special unlock code hidden inside their phones, only to be extracted by a new free SIM unlocking app that can be found on the Android Market. Keep in mind your phone will have to be rooted before you can use the app but the benefits of having an unlocked Galaxy S 2 here in the states before anyone else could make it all worth it. Also, T-Mobile uses slightly different bands than the UK so although you can make calls and text, you may be stuck with only Edge data.

Now that you know how easy it is to unlock the Galaxy S 2, anyone tempted on getting one of these bad boys imported stateside for all your friends to drool over?

Galaxy Tab 10.1 Keyboard Dock Gets A Quick Look Over

We’ve recently seen Samsung Galaxy’s 10.1 Tab get some keyboard and dock love after the Asus Transformer has been stealing all the thunder for a while.  Check out the video of the dock below.  The video doesn’t reveal a whole lot of functionality but you can get a good size comparison and feel just from looking at it.  The gentlemen in the video does a lot of walking around and comparing the tab to a few things but you can get a decent take on the keyboard itself from the last couple of minutes or so.  Unlike the Transformer, there is no touch pad and thanks to the video you can see the keyboard has a 3.5 mm headphone jack on it.  Do you think this is nice enough of a keyboard dock for you to spend some big bucks on the 10.1-inch Tab?  Is it a must have accessory to replace your laptop?  Let us know what you think in the comments below.

Samsung Galaxy S 4G will cost you $200 with T-Mobile

t-mobile-galaxy-s-4g-hands-on-01-sm

Well, it looks like even though you thought you could get a Samsung Galaxy S 4G at RadioShack for $149 on sale, you won’t be seeing that pricing from T-Mobile after all. They apparently…made a boo-boo with the pricing. It’ll cost $199.99 after a $50 mail-in rebate, and taxes n such of corse too. So, to grab one, you’ll actually need around $275.00 then have to fill out a rebate form at home for the extra $50 savings. Yeah…that sucks.

The Samsung Galaxy S 4G has;

  • Cortex A8 Hummingbird 1GHz processor
  • 4-inch Super AMOLED touch screen
  • Android 2.2
  • ST-Ericsson M5720 HSPA+ 4G modem capable of giving 21 Mbps
  • Front-facing-camera
  • 5MP camera with 720p HD video recording

Is the 4G version of the Samsung Galaxy S worth it?
