FYI: Phone-A-Day Give Away Contest Update

This image has no alt text

hgHey all, Talton here.  Rob’s just a hair busy -  so you’re stuck with me! We just wanted to drop a quick post to let everyone know where we are with the big bad ‘Phone-A-Day Give Away’ contest we have going.  So far we have picked winners for days 1-6, and congrats to them! All they need to do is send a PM to Rob on the forums to get things sorted.

Winners #7 and #8 (for the past couple days) will be announced tomorrow. We’re down to 16 to choose from for #7, and have yet to look at #8.

As you know Phandroid.com and Androidforums.com have had some greater than minor technical issues today. We do have a few issues lingering and Rob is workin’ his tail off to get these resolved ASAP.   Partly due to these difficulties – and partly due to our debate on whether or not to put a ….twist.. on the contest (wink wink) - the contest is temporarily suspended. Again, winners #7 and #8 will be announced tomorrow – but the contest itself is officially on hold.

Don’t let that stop ya from making reviews though!

For the sake of anticipation, here are the finalists for #7:

Get and Give Fashion Advice With Love It or Lose It

love it or lose it iphoneLove It or Lose It is a fashion iPhone app that uses social networking concepts to allow users to develop their own network of fashion critics. Users can share photos taken from the store rack, the dressing room, their own closet, or anywhere else and then upload them for feedback from their fashionista friends.

Clearly aimed at those with a flair for fashion, Love It or Lose It provides users with a rating system of “love it,” “like it,” or “lose it.” Additionally, the app contains special sections for storing a wish list, saving information on favorite designers, stores, prices, and so on. Create a profile, build a list of friends and get quick fashion feedback all with the touch of a button.

Love It or Lose It isn’t all that different from any other of a dozen apps that let iPhone users share photos with others, but the fashion concept behind the design is unique. (…)

Contest: 100 Copies of SmartBCalendar to Give Away; v2.0 On The Way & Needs Your Feedback

We first saw SmartBCalendar pop up back in October, and it has had a great response ever since. The useful app changes your native calendar icon on your homescreen and shows the actual day. Pretty cool if you aren’t good as keeping track of what the actual date is (like me). Well the team behind SmartBCalendar has had some great feedback and is prepping version 2.0 for launch with some cool updated features but still needs some help. They are looking for some final suggestions for updates and features you’d like to see included before release, and in turn have offered up 100 copies of SmartBCalendar to give away. The rules are simple; just leave a single comment on this post telling us what you’d like to see from the new version. In doing so, you will be entered to win a copy of SmartBCalendar. When version 2.0 is released you’ll be eligable for a free upgrade as will all existing customers. If you don’t want to wait, you can pick it up now in the CrackBerry app store for just $0.99. Contest ends this Sunday at midnight PDT.

Adobe To Give Android Phones To Their Developers?

In a move that lines up nicely with Google’s and Adobe’s newfound love for each other, Adobe might be giving handsets to some if its employees. Specifically, the Nexus One (as we would probably expect) as well as another un-specified HTC phone were the top candidates for the awesome gift. Reported by CNet, it’s not clear if Adobe will be gifting the phones (which is optional) to their entire staff or just the development team responsible for Flash and AIR on Android (and several lucky high-level executives, of course).

We’re also not sure if they’ve partnered up with Google for this or if they’ll be coming out of pocket, but that doesn’t matter: Adobe is getting very serious about Android and their internal mindset resonates through their public actions toward the OS as each day goes by leading up to its Google I/O unveiling.

WiFi Comrade Turns Off WiFi When Not Needed – 100 Copies to Give Away

If you find your battery dropping off, many times it is because you have too many connections (GPS, Bluetooth, WiFi). WiFi Comrade hopes to help by simply disabling WiFi when its not needed. The app remembers the unique ID from each cell tower and determines the device location. It automatically decides if the WiFi connection is needed, and turns WiFi on when in a "WiFi zone" and off when leaving – thats all there is to it. WiFi Comrade sells for $6.00 in the CrackBerry App Store (its on sale for $5 through the 31st) but we have 100 copies to give away. Just leave a single comment on this post to enter. Contest ends this Sunday at midnight PST.
