Here it is, folks! The 1st leaked pics of the upcoming Motorola Xoom 2 (MZ617). As you can see the device looks extremely comparable to the original Moto Xoom ‘cept this time with a lot more angled corners (ala Photon 4G). You can anticipate things to stay largely the very same with regular rear and front facing cameras, HDMI ports, micro USB connection (thank, Gawd no proprietary), SIM card slot.
Other than that, details remain scarce. Nary a word on processor (which I’m sure will make or break this device for the hardcore Android user) or any other specs could be located. Keep in mind that blue-tint you see in the back-shot is in fact the protective film that’s covering the brushed aluminum underneath. So what do you guys feel?
The chains have been loosed! Ladies and gentleman, I now present to you — the globe’s 1st Droid Bionic Deodexed ROM. It’s only been a few weeks given that the release of the Bionic and development seems to be moving along nicely. Thanks to Kejar31 and “Team Liberty,” rooted Bionic users will lastly be able to enojy a stock Motoblur ROM with out all that bloat that Verizon added. Feel free of charge to check it out by visiting the source link.
If you believed that other Android players would be upset of the news of Google acquiring Motorola this morning, then you’d be wrong. At least initially. Early press quotes indicate that 4-out-of-4 OHA partners are in agreement and every of them ‘welcome’ the deal. All four (LG, HTC, Samsung, and Sony Ericsson) have supplied a blurb that paint a picture of everybody sitting about a campfire, sharing s’mores.
“We welcome today’s news, which demonstrates Google’s deep commitment to defending Android, its partners, and the ecosystem.” – – J.K. Shin President, Samsung, Mobile Communications Division
“I welcome Google‘s commitment to defending Android and its partners.” – – Bert Nordberg, President & CEO, Sony Ericsson
“We welcome the news of today‘s acquisition, which demonstrates that Google is deeply committed to defending Android, its partners, and the entire ecosystem.” – – Peter Chou CEO, HTC Corp
“We welcome Google‘s commitment to defending Android and its partners.” – – Jong-Seok Park, Ph.D President & CEO, LG Electronics Mobile Communications Organization
We’d love to get these guys, and everybody else in the Android universe, off the record and see what they truly think of the news. What was the initial word out of their mouths this morning when their assistant passed the word along?
UPDATE: Greatest Acquire and Marvell have chimed in with their opinion and even though they don’t outright use the word welcome, we get the sense that they are happy nonetheless.
“We are positive towards Google’s continued commitment and investment in an open Android for the benefit of all players in the eco-technique.” – Weili Dai Co-founder, Marvell Technology Group
“Best Purchase has worked closely with each Google and Motorola to bring excellent solutions to our consumers. Now, with today’s news, we are excited to see what we can do together to serve customers. Both businesses have been tremendous partners to Best Obtain and we anticipate that connection to get even stronger in the future. – Brian J. Dunn CEO, Very best Obtain
The newest development in Samsung and Apple’s ongoing dispute saw the Galaxy Tab 10.1 blocked from sale in many parts of Europe, but the small victory won’t see the maker of the iPad resting on its laurels. In the extremely same complaint filed in Germany against Samsung, Apple references the Motorola XOOM and its desire to have the competing tablet examined by the identical court. A separate complaint filed over the XOOM is mentioned, although it is unclear if Apple aims to deploy the very same tactics they have utilized against Samsung by seeking a preliminary injunction and blocking sales of Motorola’s tablet. Up to this point, Motorola has remained reasonably immune to ongoing infringement disputes thanks to a vast portfolio of mobile patents.
Hot on the heels of those newly leaked Motorola Bionic pics we posted for you guys earlier today, is this new sign-up page on Verizon Wireless for the device. All you have to do is enter your email address in the box and Verizon will notify when the Bionic arrives. Once again, this can only add more fuel to the fire that we’re getting close, folks. The eve of the Bionic is almost upon us and if that leaked Verizon doc pans out, we could see the device drop on Sept. 8th.
Something tells me we’ll by notifying you of the Bionic release a lot sooner than Verizon does — but hey, it’s always good to have that second reminder.
The Droid Bionic is 1 of the most anticipated phones, but I am starting to wonder if it will live up to the hype. We have been expecting it to launch on August 4, but according to a Sam’s Club document, it will be in September.
Absolutely nothing is confirmed, but I am not expecting it to land on August 4th because I it is most likely Verizon and Motorola will hold a key press event to announce the phone, which is likely to be at least two weeks prior to the release. Correct now there is absolutely nothing scheduled.
I also anticipate them to launch a significant Twitter campaign like they have carried out with most of the best Droid phones. This will be the biggest Droid release to date so we need to anticipate the very same. Even if they don’t do a press event, they will at least run the Twitter campaign, and until that begins, there is no require to commence lining up at your nearest Verizon shop. The Droid Charge campaign started 8 days prior to the launch so we need to see one thing by this Wednesday. I know a lot of people want to believe the August four date, especially given that some accessories had been leaked at Amazon, but I am not holding my breath.
Also to note, the LG Thrill is showing as late July, but we reported earlier that all signs point to August 7, and the Samsung Conquer was originally expected to launch yesterday, but it has been pushed to August. The Motorola Photon seems to nonetheless be on track for July 31, which was officially announced by Sprint.
Earlier today, Spotify launched their services here in the States, and it looks like everyone wants a piece of that pie (this guy included). Fortunately for us, and thanks to a partnership with Motorola, you could very well make that dream come true… if you’re quick enough.
With this partnership, one would assume we can expect to see Spotify on a number of future Motorola devices… but, what good does that do you with no invite? Hit the source link to sign up, but you’ll have to be quick, as the duo is only offering up 10,000 invites!
Droid 3 is now available from Verizon wireless. Well, sorta. Jumping onto Verizon’s “Droid Does” page will give you this flashy flash page showing off all of the features and specs of Motorola’s latest qwerty offering. Only problem, clicking on the “Buy Now” button will take you to a page displaying “The selection you made is unavailable at this time.” So what gives?
Well, I’ve been hearing reports from a few lucky people who got in touch with Verizon telesales by dialing 611 on their handsets and were actually able to purchase the device. If the service rep is having a hard time locating the device in their system give them a hand with the part number “Droid 3 MOTXT862.” Might speed things up a bit.
Rumor has it the device wasn’t going to be released until July 14th but it looks like you might be able to snag it now? This phone is looking absolutely beastly. Good luck and let us know if you were able to purchase!
Motorola and Sprint recently released the XPRT, but it looks like they are working on another portrait QWERTY Android phone. This one is more curvier and will include Android 2.3 Gingerbread out of the box. You will also notice that the keyboard has more of a “smile pattern” as compared to the XPRT’s “ruler pattern.”
The only other information that was given is that it might include 4G WiMax.
We reported yesterday that the leaked Gingerbread build for the Motorola Atrix could be unlocked. Using the files from the leaked build, Android tweakers have figured out a way to unlock everyone’s Atrix.
There are some that believe that Motorola never intended to unlock the bootloader with the Gingerbread release and there are others who say they have confirmation from Motorola that they will. We will find out for sure in the near future, but for now if you have an Atrix you can start loading custom ROM’s
There has been a lot of uncertainty about the DROID Bionic. It was a much-anticipated phone, and then there was rumbling that it might never see the light of day. The most recent rumors were that it would make an appearance, but might not be exactly the phone we wanted. Sadly, we still don’t know MUCH for certain, but Motorola did promise us all via Twitter today that there will, definitely, be a phone released that they deem worth of the Bionic name.
Hang tight, DROID Bionic is coming and slated for summer release. Our team is working on some new updates
We just saw the first day of Summer, so they have approximately three months to finish up their updates and bring the phone to market, if this promise rings true. And I, for one, eagerly await more info! Leave us your thoughts in the comments, and we’ll bring you more news as soon as it comes to light.
When Google’s new movie rentals and accompanying app were announced at this year’s I/O developers conference, the Motorola XOOM was announced as one of the first Android devices to receive streaming of rentals from the Android Market. The Google Videos (formerly Movies) app came to carrier-branded XOOM tablets along with the Android 3.1 update, but the same OS upgrade did not enable the app on WiFi-only versions of the slate. Motorola confirmed that the omission was intentional. Today that changes, as the app has been updated to include support of the WiFi XOOM.
The app still won’t work with rooted XOOMs, and unlikely ever will. If you don’t fall into that category, head over to the Android Market link below to grab Google Videos for your tablet now.
The Motorola XOOM has received it’s first custom-baked ROM, the result of work undertaken by bigrushdog of XDA and the Tiamat Team. The ROM goes by the fairly uninspired XOOM Rom 1.0 Deodexed name, but the custom software is far from basic. – all sorts of advanced options come neatly packaged inside. The bad news is though the ROM is based off of a stock build of XOOM software taken from the Verizon 3G version of the tablet, installing it will break 3G service if you are a current VZW subscriber. A pretty epic win for the XOOM community, nonetheless. Find full instructions at the source link below.
When Motorola issued the 4.1.83 update for the Atrix 4G on AT&T, the devices ability to properly communicate with the mobile apps and websites of several financial services broke. Never fear, Moto is pushing forth a small update to remedy the problem as we speak. You’ll need to grab the Atrix Certificate Updater from the Android Market and follow the simple instructions to get everything in working order. Remember, you’ll need to be on the latest version of the Atrix software for the update to stick.

If you are a member of the Motorola Owner User Groups and own a Droid X, you might have received the above invitation for a new confidential project.
Upon signing up you will be informed that there is going to be a soak (beta test) for May 2011. Although it is not confirmed, I think it is safe to say that this is for the Gingerbread (Android 2.3.3) update which we know is ready.
Motorola usually implements soak testing about 1 week before the actual release. If this is the Gingerbread update, then it will probably be rolled out to all Droid X owners by the 1st or 2nd week of June. Stay tuned.
It looks like the Droid lineup is about to expand to accessories as well. More specifically, the Motorola CommandOne Bluetooth headset we first saw at CES way back in January looks to be getting some marketing help with the addition of Droid branding. The compact and sleek headset should make a perfect companion to your Droid handset or other Android phone. No release date is set as of now.
Motorola said they’d be trying to meet developers half way when it comes to encrypted bootloaders on their devices. Many interpreted this to mean that most or all of their future devices would be encryption free: this moderator at Motorola’s support forums says to not assume that and to wait for official word from Motorola as any announcements will be device specific.
Today, though, they’ve tweeted that the Motorola XOOM will indeed be hackable as it’ll employ a lockable/unlockable bootloader that’ll allow developers to access the hardware however they want.
We all assumed this would be the case considering it’s stock Android 3.0, but now there’s no question. And while I’m sure this wasn’t what you folks had in mind in your initial uproars regarding Motorola’s encryption practices (we’re sure you were talking about their MOTOBLUR phones), it’s definitely something. Let’s see what else they’ll hit us with as the weeks and months move on. [Thanks Trident, Adam!]

While we still don’t know where the HTC Thunderbolt is, the Motorola XOOM is ready to go for its February 24th release. See it here already arriving at Best Buy stores, itching to hop out on those shelves.
We told you about the Motorola Atrix 4G getting the system dump root treatment, and although it seemed like a tedious task to get going, it appears that to the disappointment of many developers, Motorola still has things fairly locked down once you get to see the different partitions.
It appears that the system dump is not encrypted, but the whole partition is signed by Motorola, meaning that the files in the root cannot be replaced by custom files like recovery. Basically, some files are still locked as a result, making the rooting only partially successful, and pretty much useless for now.
The Motorola Xoom is almost out, and how excited are we getting?! I’d have to say pretty darn excited! With the price of $800, the Xoom began showing up at Verizon stores, among others with promo materials and goodies to assist in the retail launch. The units to hit Verizon thus far look to be dummy devices, but still, that makes it that much more real.
Pricing for the tablet should still be around the $800 range we saw at Best Buy, and had heard about Motorola’s CEO justifications of that pricing, but we’ll really just have to wait and see what it gets listed as the day of sale. That sale should be Feb. 24th.
If you’re going to grab one on the 24th, or there after right away, why not get familiar with how to use it before hand. You can now because the Xoom user guide made its way online already, just before launch. You can grab a copy of it here if you want to get a head start.
We’ve said it time and time again, and we’ve gotten tons of confirmation, but Best Buy has republished their pre-order page for the Motorola XOOM. In fact, you could go out and pre-order one right now if you want to. Don’t expect to be able to walk out of the store with it until February 24th, though, and you probably won’t get it subsidized like we’ve been hearing you may be able to do.
It’ll set you back $799.99 + any accessories you may want, but take my word on this one: the tablet flat-out rocks. Check Best Buy’s site out for the list of accessories that’ll be available and their accompanying prices.
Before it could even officially hit the streets, the Motorola Atrix 4G has been rooted thanks to a handful of members between our AndroidForums and XDA. See it above running Titanium Backup.
There are still some hurdles to jump such as that dreaded Motorola bootloader, but the head start is encouraging. We’re well on our way to busting the handset wide open, it’s just a matter of time until custom ROMs are supported. The folks working on the root still remain skeptical on the possibility, but I’m betting that will be done in two weeks. Any takers?
