The Motorola Xoom is almost out, and how excited are we getting?! I’d have to say pretty darn excited! With the price of $800, the Xoom began showing up at Verizon stores, among others with promo materials and goodies to assist in the retail launch. The units to hit Verizon thus far look to be dummy devices, but still, that makes it that much more real.
Pricing for the tablet should still be around the $800 range we saw at Best Buy, and had heard about Motorola’s CEO justifications of that pricing, but we’ll really just have to wait and see what it gets listed as the day of sale. That sale should be Feb. 24th.
If you’re going to grab one on the 24th, or there after right away, why not get familiar with how to use it before hand. You can now because the Xoom user guide made its way online already, just before launch. You can grab a copy of it here if you want to get a head start.
This, without a doubt, has to be a sure sign of great things to come for the Android gaming community. Caught on tape is the LG Optimus 2X running Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 3 technology. During a look at the 2X, we saw the “Epic Citadel” tech demo running on the device and being mirrored via its HDMI out capabilities up on the big screen. Check out the video below of the demo in action. You can see the demo running flawlessly on the device and on the TV. Not bad at all for a handheld eh? This should bring high hopes to Android gamers everywhere as this type of technology begins to roll out in conjunction with dual-core processors and high end GPU’s. I know Im highly looking forward to rocking games like Infinity Blade and Gears Of War on my Android device. How about you?
Although Samsung has become quite notorious with owners of Samsung Android devices for not sending out updates to their Android devices nearly as often as they should, a small ounce of hope was discovered. What you’re seeing in the picture above is a screenshot of the Samsung Captivate running Android 2.2, otherwise known as Froyo. This was found on the AT&T support page for the Samsung Captivate, in the section that describes how to find the Captivate’s firmware version and operating system.
With many other Android phones already running Froyo and Gingerbread already going public, it seems as though the Captivate would never get the Froyo update. But, this lucky find does shed a small ray of hope on the situation for Captivate users wanting Android 2.2. Hopefully this means that the Froyo update is on the way.
You can check out the support page by clicking the source link below. Be sure to leave your thoughts and opinions in the comments.
Consumers will be able to look over three new tablets that Ramos will have on display at this year’s CES, the W10 W12 and W15. Not much is known in the specification department for any of these tablets outside of a few details on the display.
The W12 will be an 8″ display with a 4:3 ratio. The W15 will also be an 8″ display but balling out with a 16:9 aspect ratio.
Dell India’s website is now showcasing the Android powered Venue, claiming it to be “your own personal express lane to everything”. This 4.1″ display and FroYo powered device invokes the feeling “what else ya got?”, and doesn’t play to the wow factor. That’s not to say this device doesn’t have the specs we can expect for the time being:
Google Mobile just unleashed a tweet that is sure to rile up the masses craving another sweet Android treat. The tweet read “Our cafes are baking up something sweet” and included a link to the picture above. Those Android-shaped gingerbread cookies look delicious and handsome with their little green bow ties, but it only makes us hungrier than ever for the next Android update. If this little tease is any indication, it could be coming as soon as we are all hoping.
The latest rumors are pegging Android 2.3 for a debut early next week alongside the Nexus S (which is evidenced as getting an in-store Best Buy display on the 14th, though contradicting rumors state the phone has been delayed for a hardware overhaul and Best Buy’s info is outdated). Just give me a big glass of milk, cause I have some cookies to eat.
It looks like Samsung has already tinkered around a little with their Galaxy Tab as the guys over at OLED-display.net are reporting that this tablet seen with the lovely lady above is featuring Samsung’s Super AMOLED display at 1200X600 resolution.
For you “attention to detail” types, you may be wondering if that tablet to the left is the rumored 10.1-inch Galaxy Tab rumored to hit shelves next year. It’s hard to tell, but we’d like to think so.
Samsung was showing off their latest devices at FPD-International conference in Japan this week and as this device is just a prototype, this display shown could just be an AMOLED display, but what ever the case, me wants. What say you?
Verizon has the Motorola Droid Pro (otherwise coined the “Droidberry”) listed available online. Consumers visiting the site are able to add the Droid Pro to the shopping cart long before the original launch date on November 18th!
Seems Verizon has been shooting from the hip with its Android lineup launches lately, with the Samsung Continuum said to launch Nov. 11th, only to be postponed to Nov. 18th a few hours after. The Droid 2 Global being available for sale before any official announcement being made. Maybe Verizon is just as exited as its customers and can’t wait to launch!
So if you’ve been waiting to get your hands on this one…don’t! You can get it now.
Android Purity is reporting today that the Yahoo! Video Chat app, that is supposed to be exclusively for T-Mobile customers, is showing up in the Android market for non-magenta subscribers. In this case specifically, a Sprint user.
Judging from the screen shots posted, its looks as though opening the app is out of the question, however it seems to be correctly speculated that a bug exists allowing this app to show up in the first place. The screen shot on the left, for comparison, is from my T-Mobile G2 and the screen shot on the right is from a Sprint Evo 4G courtesy of Android Purity.
Now that the BlackBerry Style is all official, Research In Motion and Sprint have been taking the device on the road and showing it to folks even before it gets into stores. Probably something that should have been done at DevCon but, hey we’re not judging here. The fine folks over at Engadget had a NYC meetup and had the chance to get a little close with the BlackBerry Style. Of course, we’ll be giving the device a full run through shortly here on CrackBerry but the lighting in the above picture does show off the device rather nicely. Be sure to check out the full spec sheet, image gallery and press release we previously posted if the 9670 is your Style.
Remember the T-Mobile myTouch ROM leak we reported earlier this morning? Well, it looks like system information wasn’t the only thing this ROM was hiding as the 312MB file was also holding on to a commercial for the upcoming myTouch (HTC Glacier). As the video found below is meant for viewing on the device, it is currently sideways but you can still what UI this device will have along with some highlighted features. Enjoy!
Members of the press have been invited to see Sony unveil the world’s first internet TV October 12th at 5:30pm. While they don’t mention Google TV specifically, it’s no secret that they’ve been working with Google and Intel to produce a TV with the technology embedded. We haven’t seen or heard much out of Sony themselves regarding it, but I suppose that’s what October 12th will be for. Now I just have to find a way to snag an invite. You think coming with a suit made out of Xperia X10s could get me through the door?
We’ve been hearing for quite some time that release dates for the BlackBerry Torch 9800 on Canadian carriers was set for September. The big three, Bell, TELUS and Rogers have all confirmed an inevitable launch but no dates were set by any. Rumors suggest TELUS will launch on Sept 16th but, we now have the above information which suggests a Rogers release one day earlier on the 15th. We’re assuming the $999.99 price point is just a Future Shop place holder so, nothing can be said about official pricing from this information. We’ll be sure to keep you all updated though as we find out more information. So, who’s grabbing a Torch on launch day in Canada?
When is this phone coming out again? With all of the leaks and info you could almost swear it may have been released last month and Verizon just never got around to telling anyone. Motorola Droid 2 units are beginning to show up in stock at Verizon warehouses, and while the number from this initial screen cap looks low, expect it to rise dramatically over the next two days leading up the the rumored August 12th release of the phone.
Speaking of August 12th, the date is again mentioned on this leaked spec sheet detailing everything you could want to know about the Droid 2 in one place. 1GHz CPU, check. Android 2.2, check. 8GB internal storage, 5MP camera, 3G mobile hotspot. Check, check, check. Can the 12th get here any sooner so these leaks can be plugged?
Just like the Hotmail icon that started showing up for BIS users about a month ago, it appears as if AOL mail is now showing a new icon of its own. Adrian let us know that this AOL icon is now showing on the device replacing the standard globe icon. So far just Hotmail and AOL are showing off, while a few users have reported seeing this for Yahoo! as well. We’re pretty sure this is an after-effect of the updated BIS rollout but haven’t been able to verify it. No love on the Gmail front however, but if things keep up we may see that change in the near future as well. Thanks Adrian!
There has been a lot of news concerning Baidu lately as the stories unfolded about Google’s presence in China – and all the firewall workarounds the search giant employed to keep itself uncensored. Baidu is one of Google’s main competitors as a search engine in China, but now it looks like they’re ready to take on another aspect of Google’s market – smartphones.
According to All Things Digital, Baidu has been going behind enemy lines, so to speak, and trying to convince handset manufacturers to make their searches more prevalent than Google’s in upcoming Android handsets. While Android handsets only make up 0.4% of the 7.5 million smartphones sold in the last 3 months of 2009, the numbers in the first half of this year have surely been growing.
As smartphones become more and more popular, the search engine market grows right alongside them, making it easy to see why Baidu would love to have a piece of Google’s search pie.
Right ahead of the phone’s rumored June 16th launch date, Best Buy’s showing the device on their Canada Mobile site at $79.99 (3-year agreement) and $399.99 (off-contract). It looks to be an in-store only item, but we’re not sure if pre-ordering is an option.
In any case, call or head into your Best Buy to see if they can offer up some more concrete confirmation regarding the launch date (for what it’s worth, we’re still pretty confident in June 16th, but it’s still technically a rumor).
