HTC Status (ChaCha) for Telus Canada

Since the HTC ChaCha was announced in the UK, we have been waiting for its release in North America. Well today, Telus in Canada has announced the HTC Status, their version of the HTC ChaCha. The HTC Status will come in either black or purple, run Android 2.3, and have the dedicated “Facebook” button. There is no announcement for a launch date, but this phone is definitely on the way.

It’ll be interesting to see what name the ChaCha launches under when it hits AT&T in the U.S., as we heard rumors that they’d be calling it the Status.

So, what do you think about the ChaCha? Think HTC should stick to making regular Android phones? Leave your comments below or on our Facebook Wall!

TELUS now offering the BlackBerry Pearl 3G for $200, no contract

TELUS now offering BlackBerry Pearl 3G's for $200, no contract

If you’re looking to get a deal on a no contract, BlackBerry Pearl 3G and live in Canada, TELUS is looking to hook you up. Be it in Black or in Pink, TELUS is willing to sell you either or for only $200. Which is a pretty sweet deal for a brand new, unopened, no contact device from any carrier.

To put some comparison on that pricing, if you were to go to AT&T right now and ask for a BlackBerry Pearl 3G with no contract you would be looking at paying $549.99. Also, if you’re in the US and lucky enough to have some Canadian friends they might be able to hook you up. No details as to when the sale might end but I’m guessing it won’t last too long.

Telus confirms BlackBerry 6 coming to the BlackBerry Curve 3G in January

Telus confirms BlackBerry 6 coming to the BlackBerry Curve 3G in January

When it comes to openly discussing device updates often times carriers tend to be rather slim on details. Not Telus though. Least not in this case. Telus Twitter support as you can see above has confirmed the BlackBerry Curve 3G 9300 will see a BlackBerry 6 update although, the BlackBerry Bold 9700 remains a mystery. Good fur Curve 3G owners. Not so good for BlackBerry Bold 9700 owners. Of course, you could always just load a leak for either device if you’re impatient.

HTC Desire HD gets FCC approval, could be destined for American 3G or Telus

The HTC Desire HD, a beast of an Android phone that has yet to make it to the North American continent, has been approved by the FCC. The FCC approval documented a device with model number PD98120 that supports WCDMA Bands II and V, which means it can be used on AT&T, Bell, Telus, and Rogers.

Since it has already been rumored that Telus would receive the HTC Desire HD, this recent FCC approval only supports that theory even more.

TELUS users who’ve been waiting for the BlackBerry Style to arrive can now get their hands on one. TELUS has listed the deivce on their website for $79.99 on a new 3-year contract. Although, Future Shop still has their pricing set at $49.99 with a new 3-year as well. BlackBerry Style 9670 dummy units now arriving at TELUS

BlackBerry Style dummy units now arriving at TELUS

TELUS was quick to confirm they’d also be releasing the BlackBerry Style 9670 shortly after the initial Sprint announcement but no official date was actually set at that time. But, given that the dummy unit devices are now showing up at retail locations launch surely cannot be far off. There is a suggested price of $399.99 outright being put out there but of course, that’s all subject to change at any point. Be sure to check out our full BlackBerry Style break down for specs, videos and pics. Anyone on TELUS going to be grabbing one up once released?

Best Buy posts TELUS BlackBerry Bold 9780 pricing

BlackBerry Bold 9780

Best Buy has issues with keeping secrets apparently. First, they were the ones to out the Rogers, Virgin and Bell BlackBerry Bold 9780 pricing and now, we have courtesy of them the TELUS pricing. Good news though for TELUS fans wanting the BlackBerry Bold 9780. TELUS will be offering their version for a mere $99 on a 3-year contract with the no term pricing set at $499.99. They aren’t ready to be ordered or even picked up in store yet but as we all know, when the ads go up it’s a clear indication launch is close. Thanks Jamie!

TELUS moves HTC Desire Froyo update ahead in Q4

After a few short minutes, TELUS pulled the Froyo upgrade down for HTC Desire users and postponed it until sometime “in the near future in Q4″. Must have been something that they found wrong with it, but at least it still coming this year. I guess that will have to do!

Samsung Galaxy S Fascinate Coming Soon to Telus Mobility

Telus Samsung Fascinate

Canada is finally getting more Android love with our carriers! We’ve reported stories on Rogers and Bell launching the Samsung Galaxy, as well as the offers you may find on it at your local Future Shop or Best Buy. Let’s add Telus to the hype for Fall Android releases as they wind up to compete with the Samsung Galaxy S Fascinate.

Although Rogers and Bell are launching the Galaxy this weekend, Telus does not specify a date, rather “Coming Soon” is seen on their headlines page. Telus has had great success with its currently available HTC Desire, and will likely launch the Galaxy S Fascinate before the holiday shopping season starts to take off. Pricing will likely be similar to what we see with Rogers, which is around $150 – $180 CAN on a 3 year contract.

Samsung is really getting its products out there across the carriers to ensure everybody, regardless of which carrier you may be locked into, can get their hands on the Galaxy S family.

TELUS discontinues the HTC Hero

Less than a year after its initial release in November of 2009, TELUS has announced they will no longer be selling the HTC Hero. The move is likely influenced by the addition of higher-end Android devices to the TELUS lineup, including the  HTC Desire, Motorola Milestone, and the forthcoming Samsung Galaxy Apollo.

You may be able to find some stock left in stores, but the Hero has been officially removed from online ordering. Goodnight, sweet prince.

TELUS branded BlackBerry Bold 9780 caught on video, set to launch October 21st?!?

While many of us are still holding out for our BlackBerry Bold 9700′s to get BlackBerry 6, it seems TELUS is already moving beyond that and prepping the release of the BlackBerry Bold 9780 for an expected launch date of October 21st. Information suggests they have even reached the point where they have put the BlackBerry Bold 9700 on their EOL (End of Life) list.

As well, the above video shows that the devices are already floating around out there, TELUS branded, flashed and have been in field testing for quite some time now. While we’ll take the launch date with a grain of salt for now, it does seem fitting that an October – November release date would be the most beneficial to carriers as they head into the holiday season.

Telus Launches the LG Shine Plus

Telus out in Canada has just released their latest Android handset – their version of the LG Ally on Verizon. The device is called the LG Shine Plus and has the same specs we remember from the Ally: Android 2.1, a 3.2-inch WVGA touchscreen, 3G, Wi-Fi, GPS, a 5-megapixel camera, and a full QWERTY keyboard.

LG-Shine-Plus-Ally-Telus-Canada

It’s available online now for $69.99 after a 3-year contract agreement or you can get it outright for $299.99. They’ll also be looking to launch the Samsung Galaxy Apollo next, though we only have “coming soon” as a window. The Galaxy Apollo is a mid-range handset running Android 2.1 and TouchWiz UI, has a 3.2-megapixel camera, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and GPS.

TELUS HTC Desire out of stock

Nearly a month after initially launching in Canada, TELUS’ HTC Desire is sold out, temporarily.  The phone, being sold for $79.99 on a 3-year contract, has been very successful for TELUS.

Never fear, my fellow Canadians, TELUS is promising that the new inventory will be coming shortly.  Also, they will be offering a $50 dollar mail-in rebate for those who have to wait.  That’s a pretty great deal, eh?

The TELUS HTC Desire ships with Android 2.1, a 3.7″ WVGA display, 5MP camera with LED flash, 1 GHz Snapdragon CPU, and 576 MB RAM.

HTC Desire Coming to TELUS August 3rd?

This image has no alt text

TELUS-HTC-Desire

Canadian Android site AndroidTablets.ca is reporting an August 3rd launch date for the HTC Desire at Telus. The employee who confirmed the date in-store wasn’t able to give an exact price but quoted it as probably coming in under $100 for a 3-year deal. This goes against earlier leaked figures putting it at $299.95 on a three-year contract, quite pricey for a handset in today’s world of subsidized phones. Whether or not the August 3rd date will stick remains to be seen, but dummy units arriving in Telus stores indicate the phone will be launching soon regardless.

HTC Desire Dummy Units Arrive at TELUS

This image has no alt text

The long wait for the HTC Desire’s debut on Telus may finally be drawing to an end, as dummy display units of the phone are showing up at the carrier’s retail stores to showcase the phone in all of it’s non-functional glory. There is still no firm date on the phone’s release, just as Telus didn’t provide one when they officially announced the handset, but with the display models arriving it could only be a matter of days, at most a couple of weeks. Rumored pricing puts the phone at $299.95 on a 3-year contract all the way up to $499.95 on a 1-year deal.

TELUS-HTC-Desire

With all of the inventory concerns that have plagued major handset launches, manufacturer’s are getting smart by using dummy phones to preserve as much stock as possible for sale to customers. Or maybe it’s just all around cheaper. While that may be all well and good, it still doesn’t compare to getting some hands-on time with the actual software of the device, though with something like the Desire we are sure it won’t hurt sales.

HTC Desire spotlighted on Telus site, Possible pricing uncovered in website code

Canadian cellular provider TELUS has been tempting its customers with little details on the upcoming HTC Desire release. They have been sketchy on the details especially when it will launch and for how much. They recently placed up a landing page for the device and some sly little sleuths were able to uncover a bit of info for us. According to the web site code for the page there are three prices shown. First is $499.95 for a one year contract, $399.95 for a two year contract, and $299.95 for a three year contract.

Now before you start getting all puffed up this is probably just a place holder for the pricing. Realistically the prices should be much lowers so we will just have to wait and see. At least this brings us closer to getting what we “Desire” :)
