Telus “Unleashing” the HTC Triumph on June 8th?

The first two weeks of June are chock full of big handset releases (and we aren’t just speaking strictly about Android. Lookin’ at you, iPhone), and Telus doesn’t want to be left out of the mobile madness. Telus’ home page now has a countdown teasing of something that will be unleashed June 8th, and the only thing that has been on our radar that may be worthy of such promotion is the HTC Triumph, a supposedly rebranded version of the HTC Desire headed to the Canadian network. If this is the case, its only two weeks out before Telus subscribers can get their hands on the Android handset that has already taken Europe by storm.

HTC Desire Launching on Telus as HTC Triumph?

Mobile Syrup is reporting that the previously mentioned HTC Triumph to be launched on Canadian provider Telus is actually the HTC Desire.  If this turns out to be true, this is VERY good news for Telus customers.  Telus will also be the first North American carrier to feature the handset if this happens.

HTC’s original device is largely a carrier-friendly version of the Nexus One.  It has the same 3.7-inch AMOLED screen, 1GHz Snapdragon and 5-megapixel camera. Its major differences are an optical trackpad instead of the trackball and the presence of the Sense UI layer on top of Android 2.1.

As of now, there is no price or launch date, but we will bring them to you as soon as they come.  So Canadians, what do you think of this handset?  Will you be buying one?

TELUS to Receive the HTC Triumph

What’s the HTC Triumph, you ask? Well that was what had many people scratching their heads when Mobile Syrup uncovered some TELUS inventory pics showing the device as coming to the Canadian network. But wonder no more, as it turns out the Triumph will be a rebranded HTC Desire. The Desire, as we all know, is the 1GHz Snapdragon, 3.7-inch AMOLED touchscreen kissing-cousin to the Nexus One and is currently on quite the rampage over in Europe.

Up until now its only presence in North America seemed to be its upcoming summer release on US Cellular, but it looks like the Triumph-named TELUS version will be landing in the same time period (July/August). No pricing is known, and the reason for the name change remains a mystery. Maybe they realized what everyone DESIRED turned out to be a huge TRIUMPH…ha…ha…ehhhh.

Best Buy Canada Now Taking Pre Orders For TELUS BlackBerry Pearl 3G

While at Best Buy today I happened to notice they had the Rogers BlackBerry Pearl 3G on display with a "coming soon" note below it. As per normal while perusing devices in store, a representive approached me to ask if I needed any help so I asked about the BlackBerry Pearl 3G release dats knowing they were not solid at this point.

The rep informed me that Best Buy was taking pre orders at moment for the TELUS version with a $50 deposit. TELUS will be releasing in two colors, black and pink with the pricing set at $29.99 with new three year contract and $449.99 without contract. Telus gets Motorola Backflip

Canadian Best Buy stores are offering Motorola Backflip pre-sales with a $50 deposit and sign-up of a new three year contract.  Backflip officially goes on sale in Telus stores Monday.

Don’t get too excited, this is the Backflip we’re talking about. Though if you’re feeling creative, you can always root it and build a better ROM. For the same price you could get HTC Hero or a Motorola Milestone for $199.99 on contract.

Telus Motorola Milestone, Get Some 2.1 Love

Droid owners got their update many weeks ago, now the Telus Motorola Milestone is up at bat. The update is not over-the-air (OTA) so don’t stop reading this post just yet. The update must be downloaded from the Motorola website and applied via computer. Visit the Motorola Support Website, select Telus as the carrier and Milestone as the phone type. After you have done this you will be provided with detailed instructions on what you will need and how to apply the update to your phone. It should be noted that this update will cause your device to lose all media including pictures, photos, and even any apps that did not come with the phone. Enjoy the update and see you on the other side with live wallpapers and more homescreens!

TELUS Milestone Users Can Now Grab Their 2.1 Update

This image has no alt text

Great news for our Canadian phans! The 2.1 update for your Motorola Milestone is fresh out the oven and ready to be served. This update is not applicable over the air, so you’ll have to download some software to your PC to get your fix. Head over to Motorola’s support site and select your carrier (presumably TELUS) to get started.

Alternatively, you can download the exact file you’ll end up getting just by right clicking here. MobileSyrup was nice enough to get a screengrab of the PDF that outlines some of the extras you’ll be getting alongside the standard set of Android 2.1 features – you can check that out below.

Root Your Telus Milestone

milestone

It’s finally time for all you Telus Milestone owners to finally have root access on your device! Over at AllDroid they have compiled instructions based from the knowledge and information of many different developers and hackers within the Android community. While the rooting for this device, which includes having to flash to a Brazilian .sbf file, is a bit more intricate then many of the other devices at least it is a start. It doesn’t appear the kernel is yet available, but beggars can’t be choosers, can they?

Keep in mind, this is a risky process, and should be done at your own peril (or at least at your phone’s peril). If you have questions, or need help with this process, jump into the forums. [AllDroid via Boy Genius Report]

Official OS 5.0.0.442 For The BlackBerry Bold 9700 Released By TELUS

As spotted in the forums, if you are on TELUS and fanatical about running nothing but a carrier released OS you can now get your hands on OS 5.0.0.442. Previously leaked then released on other carriers this one has been around for a while now. But, not everyone likes to run non official, non carrier released OS’ so enjoy.

TELUS Milestone Rooted (Kinda)

motorola-milestone-telusRooting the Motorola Milestone has been a somewhat impossible task given Motorola locking down the bootloader. I say somewhat because some folks at AllDroid have managed to gain root access on the TELUS Milestone, albeit without kernel access.

A good start is better than nothing and there are some directions on how to root the TELUS Motorola Milestone over at AllDroid. I find the poll at the top quite humorous: “Did this thread help any” with the choices all answering questions with questions… onf of them “Did you brick your phone”? Feel free to try this out yourself, but if you have to answer the question with the question we noted – don’t blame us!
