Tutorial: Add the TalkAndroid InfoByte podcast to Google Listen

As many of you probably know, TalkAndroid has begun running a podcast! We’re calling it the TalkAndroid InfoByte, and it’s a rundown of all the day’s news, set to be released every morning, Monday – Friday.

But now the big question… how do you get it into Google Listen, so you can have all that TalkAndroid goodness on the go?? Well, now that we have an RSS feed of the podcast, it will be very simple.

All you have to do is this:

  1. From your mobile browser, tap this link, and in the “open with” menu that comes up, choose the option to open in Google Listen
  2. In the window that pops up, tap the “Add” button
  3. Google Listen will automatically open with the feed of our podcast
  4. Tap “subscribe” at the top left of the screen

And that’s it! Now you can listen to our new podcast every Monday – Friday, and keep yourself updated while you’re out living your busy life.

Tutorial: Use audio files as ringtones, alarms or notification sounds (Windows)

So, you’ve got an awesome song you want as a ringtone, or a cool little sound effect to use as an SMS notification. The only question is, how do you get all that audio goodness onto your device? We’ll take a quick look at how to do that here.

The process is relatively simple. The first step is to get your phone hooked up to your computer, and to mount the SD card. When you plug in your phone via USB, pull down the top notification menu, and choose the option to mount the SD card. After a few seconds, you should get a message that your SD card is mounted and ready for file transfers.

At this point, open up “My Computer” on your PC, and choose the last removable disk. This should be your SD card in your phone. If you can’t figure out which device is your phone, unmount your SD card via the pull down menu on your phone, unplug your device, and see which removable device disappears inside your “My Computer” folder. When you plug the phone in again, the one that then appears is the phone.

Don’t Touch that Robot! Bypass the Android Setup Tutorial

This image has no alt text

I know, I know, for many of us it may be more than just a little tempting to gently stroke that little green robot as you boot up your phone or a newly installed ROM for the first time. We all have enough loving for the green guy to go around, but sometimes it may be best to keep our hands to ourselves. Now, not every phone goes through this process depending on the flavor of Android and manufacturer, but chances are if you are the sort of person who wants to skip it you have experienced the setup tutorial more than enough times.

This quick tip is actually quite simple. When beckoned to “touch the Android” just press the four corners, starting in the upper left, in a clockwise order and you can get right into configuring the phone the way you want to. Load up your WiFi, add a few accounts…do whatever, the way you deal with withdraw from not touching the Android is up to you.
