The latest big buzz on Android tablets has been the Samsung Galaxy Tab, but there’s another tablet looking to grab some of that 7 inch marketspace: the Viewsonic ViewPad 7, which was recently shown off at IFA 2010 Berlin. It may not have specs as impressive as the Galaxy Tab (slower processor and lower resolution), but the fact that it’s already running Froyo 2.2, and stock at that, is a comfort. It even has Marketplace access. Maybe manufactures are starting to listen to the consumer plea for vanilla Android.
What exactly does this mean? Instead of waiting for a software update from the manufacturer, you will get your updates directly from Google as they are released. Keep in mind, that although the ViewPad 7 has lower specs, it also means it will most likely be priced better then the competition. Which is good for public consumption. If you want something with more power, there is also the Viewsonic ViewPad 100 coming out, which is a 10-incher with beefier specs, although it has only been seen running Android 1.6 so far.

Love your Galaxy S phone but hate TouchWiz 3.0? Fear not Galaxy S users, for there are some very crafty people working on getting vanilla Android 2.1 working on your precious Hummingbird driven devices. It’s not exactly working 100% though, with the biggest bug being the camera. It doesn’t work… at all. ihtfp69 has released an update to Sky Raider 2.2 [Sense or Vanilla!!!] UPDATED: 08/05/2010.Now at version v2.2.

UPDATES:
1. 2.2 is coming out today, 8/6/2010, and includes both a Sense and Vanilla ROM.
2. 2.2 is prepped for Hulu+Flash (just install Flash from the skyraider folder on your sd card after the install)
3. 2.2 Vanilla ROM has most of the HTC apps removed and replaced with vanilla versions or just left out completely
4. Lots of Goodies coming including alternate themes and boot animations.
5. I removed the old Wireless Tether so download and install the newest one from here–> Wireless Tether 2.0.5 pre7
(make sure you rename or delete the android.tether folder on your sd card)
6. If you have problems flashing in recovery, use ROM Manager to install the ROM
7. New ringtones/alerts are built in.
8. To get touch tones to work with automated systems like voicemail, you must disable or change audible touch tones to long (1.9b only)
Menu>Settings>Sound>Audible touch tones
9. Do not use this setting. It does not work atm: Menu>Settings>Wireless & Networks >Mobile networks (1.9b only)
10. If you are having problems installing apps using the Market, make sure you clear the cache
Menu>Settings>Applications>Manage Applications>All>Market>Clear cache
