Google Introduces Google Wallet – George Costanza Is Their Very first Customer [Video]

This image has no alt text

Google introduced the world to their new mobile payment service for smartphones aptly named, Google Wallet. While the service isn’t officially live just yet, you can hit up Google.com/wallet to signup and get notified as soon as it is. At present, there is only one telephone in the US that is in fact NFC enabled to take benefit of their new service and I’d envision Google is waiting for the release of some new NFC chipped devices ahead of going live. In case you had been questioning what type of individual would benefit from Google Wallet, nicely — Google already has their very first customer and supplied the video below.

The eagerly awaited Asus Eee Pad Slider will lastly be available in the US prior to the end of the month. According to Engadget who got some extended hands-on time with the tablet hybrid, the device will start off at $ 475 for the 16GB model with the 32GB model jumping a hundred bucks to $ 575.

The Asus Eee Pad Slider attributes a 10-inch 1280&times800 resolution IPS display, Android three.two Honeycomb and none of the heavy manufacturer skinning we&rsquove noticed from OEM&rsquos like Sony or Samsung.&nbspIs anyone still interested in this tablet? Nonetheless waiting for a quad-core Android tablet or has Windows 8 taken away some of the glitz and glamor of Honeycomb?

“LG Marquee” Could be the LG Optimus Black for Sprint [Video]

This image has no alt text

Radio Shack had fairly the time showing off the exclusive they have on Sprint&rsquos HTC EVO 3D but for us Android enthusiasts who excrete little excitement for an alternate color of a device that&rsquos already released, a phone named the &ldquoLG Marquee&rdquo stole the show. Our friends at Android Central point out that it looks a lot like the LG Optimus Black And if you don&rsquot bear in mind, Sprint was rumored to be launching that phone after one &ldquoOptimus B&rdquo created a quick cameo in Sprint&rsquos &ldquoEmployee Packs&rdquo section for Sprint ID. We&rsquore glad to see Sprint hasn&rsquot given up on that one because we had been absolutely in enjoy with the display on that thing when we last saw it. Let&rsquos hope they get this one on store shelves sooner than soon. 14 second mark in the video above.

Assessment: Sprint Samsung Conquer 4G [video]

We had a chance to get our hands on a new Samsung Conquer 4G on Sprint, and we would like to share it with you. The phone is regarded as an entry level device, even though we here at TalkAndroid are giving it the thumbs up to be referred to as mid-range. With a 1GHz CPU and the overall snappiness of the device, this phone deserves a small more “oomph” than “entry level”. The overall feel of the telephone is great, and the reality that it comes with stock Vanilla Android as the UI excites the heck out of this writer.

If you’re wanting the full rundown of the device, hit the break for both the unboxing and evaluation videos, and be positive to let us know what you feel in the comments.

Samsung releases 2nd teaser video for large announcement on September 1st (Video)

Another teaser video from Samsung avows “something massive is coming” at the commence of the IFA trade show in Berlin on September 1st. These videos are creating far more questions rather than answers for what we can expect.

Basically put, the 1st of the two clips gives us images of some young and gorgeous people smiling with wind-blown hair on the peaceful oceanside. The second shows a lot more young and beautiful folks, this time with a dose of hip and a splash of cool, as they smile and walk around town carrying and employing glowing handsets and tablet devices.

Some are buzzing that one of the glowing mystery devices could be Samsung’s rumored Android Honeycomb Galaxy Tab which capabilities a 7-inch Super AMOLED screen (1024𴨰 resolution), three-megapixel rear camera and 2-megapixel front facing cam for video chat. Yet another theory is that it may well be a phone since “glowing handsets” appear in the videos.

What do you believe the Massive announcement is? Leave us a comment and check out both videos right after the break.

RIM Mistakingly Shows Off HTC Device In New Blackberry Promo Video [Lawl]

This image has no alt text

Awwww, appear — it’s the new Blackberry 9803647 pretending to be “hip” and “new.” How cute. Today, RIM released this promo video of a launch party held in honor of their latest dumbphone, showing off the all new OS it will be running (yawn). The new Blackberry can run games! And message! And — wait — is that an Android device in the video? Either I stepped into the Twilight Zone where HTC is creating the next Blackberry device or it seems RIM could have gotten a little confused with their own OS. In an attempt at displaying their new keyboard software (:15 and :27), RIM somehow managed to mix up their Blackberry 9763545 with an HTC device (looks like an Amazing 2). I know, a small slip-up but funny none-the-less. Can’t say how lengthy this video will remain up but back to the editing room, boys!

Thanks, Denis!

Preview Of CyanogenMod On The LG Optimus 3D Shows Promise (Video)

Every person’s favorite developer is showing no signs of slowing down when it comes to his “get CM on as several devices as I can” campaign.  The latest and greatest to make the list is the LG Optimus 3D/LG Thrill 4G.  We knew it was becoming implemented on the device along with the Sensation 4G but now we’ve got a video preview for you thanks to developer Ricardo Cerquiera.   As you can see in the video, the develop looks stable with video, browsing, OpenGL and WiFi all working on the device seamlessly.  And with 58 frames per second according to the NenaMark benchmark app, it’s certain to be sweet as heck.

According to Cerquiera, 3D video is up and working as nicely.  So, if you’re all worried about losing that gimmick feature don’t worry about it.  As of now, there’s no word no matter whether or not the firmware will make it to nightly builds but we’ve got one eye open on this and you’ll be the initial to know if it does.  Hit the break to check out the video demo of the create in action and as constantly feel totally free to leave your thoughts in the comments below.   Read Much more…

Video Ads Get Surgical Targeting

BigBand Networks, today announced that AT&T is deploying their BigBand Media Services Platform (MSP) as component of AT&T U-verse TV’s nearby ad insertion resolution.

The BigBand MSP-based advertising resolution can help operators increase advertising revenues by supporting distinct markets via the preparation and splicing of local ads into national program feeds. BigBand lately announced that its advertising solutions supported over 1 billion ad transactions in the last year for North American cable operators.

BigBand says their MSP-based advertising resolution enables service providers to maximize advertising revenues whilst minimizing operational costs. The remedy includes the preparation and transcoding of ad assets, ad splicing into linear Tv streams, event reporting to traffic and billing systems, and management using BigBand’s Video Management System software. The BigBand Switched Video Analysis (SVA) – operators can accurately measure and monitor their content viewership, identify trends and use their media budgets to acquire the most proper contents for their subscriber.

Google movie rentals may be coming to phones soon [Video]

Google showed off their movie rental service back in May at I/O, but only launched it for the XOOM. It was originally supposed to be for Honeycomb 3.1 devices, but non of the other Honeycomb 3.1 devices have access to it.

We do have an interesting development as some people saw the application in the Android Market briefly last night and were able to download it. Looks like they may be making this a widespread application soon. Of course, it will only be available for non rooted devices. No word on availability, but we will let you know as soon as we hear more. Check out the video of it running on a Nexus S after the break.

How To Video Podcast Using Google Plus Hangouts

This image has no alt text

Facebook is okay. Twitter is neat. But Google+ is already opening doors. With the new “Hangout” feature, the Phandroid team tested out something we’ve wanted to do for a LONG time: video podcasting. The main thing holding us back in the past was a simple technology to get the job done. Well, check out what we were able to accomplish with Google+:

What we did was extremely simple:

  • Create a private G+ Hangout with those video podcasting
  • Use Camtasia, set the recording area to a custom size that fits the Hangout video
  • Press the record button and start your podcast!

I had to use a microphone that recorded the sound coming out of my laptop speaker, so sound quality wasn’t good. Kevin and I were also using our built-in laptop cameras so our video quality wasn’t great. But when it comes down to it, this was a test run that can be greatly improved upon- we just wanted to test it out, share the idea, and see what you folks think.

Most of all, I hope Google takes notice and continues building this out as a native feature set with YouTube integration. Some things I’d like to see:

  • Set private Hangout/Podcast participants, but allow other Circles or the general public to view the video stream
  • Enable the “host” to selectively allow people watching (but not participating) to get face-time: this could be the equivalent of “calling in” to ask a question or having a guest on-air
  • Allow recording of the video which would automatically be uploaded to your YouTube account for future viewing
  • Take it one step further and imagine live polls, overlay graphics/text, and elements that would not only improve hangout as a feature for friends but make it the most compelling (and free) video podcasting solution on the planet.

So… what do you think?

Keep the opinions coming!

Please sound off in the comments if you’d like to see more of these videos:  what specific topics/ideas would you like us to cover?

Phones 4 u gives us yet another sneak peak of the BlackBerry Bold 9900 on video

With Vodafone UK recently giving us a sneak peek into the BlackBerry Bold 9900, Phones4U have also joined in on the parade. However, rather than just do a plan old review of the device, Phones4U have added their very own twist to the review. It’s fun to see these videos pop up, but they just add to the pain of waiting for the device. We still have no official release date for the Bold 9900 or 9930 but we’re hopeful that we’ll hear one for sure before long. Check out the video for yourself.

While you’re at it you can join in on the discussions on the Bold 9900 in the forums.

Facebook for Android Gets Updated to 1.6, Adds Video Upload and Pages

Check your Market now, because Facebook for Android just got an update! It is not necessarily a huge one but it does improve and bring a couple of features to the mobile app: Improved News Feed, Pages Support, and Video Upload.

The News Feed has been improved in a sense that it will load more types of posts and open the posts natively in the app. Pages is also supported…sort of. You may now click on a Page that appears in your News Feed and browse the Page within the app. That is cool and all, but there is no way to quickly search for a Page. You must find it in your News Feed. This is a bit of a downer, especially since iOS’ Facebook app has had this feature for ages. Finally, and likely the biggest feature added to the Facebook for Android app,  is video upload! We can now (finally) upload videos taken from our devices directly to Facebook while staying in the app.

Go give the update a spin, and let us know what you think! It seems as if the app is not showing up in the Market for tablet owners. If you own a XOOM, a shiny new Galaxy Tab 10.1, or any other Android tablet, PLEASE let us know if you can update, or even see the app.

Zinio Brings Hardware-Accelerated Magazine Reading to Your Tegra 2 Tablet [Video]

This image has no alt text

More Honeycomb apps are always a good thing, right? This time, the folks at Zinio have brought us a hardware-accelerated application optimized for performance on Honeycomb and Tegra 2. The company says they have 100,000 magazines from 4,200 different publishers in all types of languages and available to purchase in a variety of currencies.

Content can be synced to a number of other platforms, including PC, Mac, and iOS and soon to be Blackberry, Windows 7 and WebOS. To sweeten the pot, Zinio’s giving away the latest editions to three popular magazines – ESPN, Harper’s, and Popular Science. Sounds like a deal, if you ask me. The application itself can be had for free from the Android market.

BlackBerry Torch 2 leaks continue, this time on video!

No surprise here but, the BlackBerry Torch 2 leaks are continuing. First was some low lighted images then came the higher res ones and now — a video. Although it’s not the first time we’ve seen the BlackBerry Torch 2 on video, it does give us one of the better walkthroughs of the hardware and software from a pre-release perspective. Revisiting the specs on the BlackBerry Torch 2:

  • Processor: 1.2 GHz processor
  • Radio: Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE ; Tri-band HSPA 14.4Mbps
  • Display: 3.2" VGA – 480 x 640 capacitive touchscreen display
  • Memory: 8GB storage + 768MB RAM + up to 32GB MicroSD
  • Connectivity: WiFi + Bluetooth + NFC
  • Camera: 5 MP
  • Battery: 1300MAh battery
  • Dimension: 14.6mm thick
  • Sensors: magnetometer

By now, this thing has leaked onto the web so many times we’re really starting to wonder when RIM will actually put the official stamp on it and announce it. Previous Torch owners, after having watched the video will be upgrading to the BlackBerry Torch 2 or will you be holding out for something better? Sound off in the comments and let us know.

Enter the Nokia US support video contest by 16 May

Enter the Nokia US support video contest by 16 MayNokia has been running a lot of contests and Nokia Experts readers seem to have pretty good luck at winning so I wanted to share a US-based contest going on now that has five days left to enter. The Nokia Care US contest is accepting videos that show different “How-tos” for Nokia devices in just three minutes. The contest deadline is 16 May, next Monday.

I entered the video embedded below (it was tough to cut it to 3 minutes and get all the steps in there) that shows how to enjoy Amazon Video On Demand movies and Zune Pass music on your Nokia device. I thought it was timely given that Windows Phone 7 will eventually be on Nokia hardware so using the method I described you can get a glimpse of the Zune Pass functionality on your Nokia device. My video is now in the contest playlist and next week they will Tweet out the voting start with directions on how to vote.

Voting starts 17 May and goes through 24 May so I will post again when it starts so you can all vote for my video if you think it is worthy. Voters also have a chance to win a Nokia N8 so it is in your best interest to vote as well. Remember, you can only vote once during the voting period so make it count ;)

The grand prize is a Nokia E7 and if I win I will post a review of the device here since I have yet to get a loaner eval unit and have only seen it at Nokia World last year. The runner-up prize is a Nokia Astound, which I would also love to win and would follow up here with more articles on that device.

Last week I posted about the Nokia Care US contest and let you know I entered with a video showing how to get Amazon Video On Demand movies and Zune Pass music on your Nokia device. Voting opened up today and runs through 24 May. If you like my video and would like to see more coverage of the Nokia Astound here on Nokia Experts please vote for my video.

To vote for my video, post this from your Twitter account:

@NokiaCareUS Amazon Video & Zune Pass on Nokia N8 #NokiaCareUSContest

You can check out all the video contest entries on the Nokia Care US YouTube site. If you don’t like my video, but like another, then please vote for it too since a vote gets you entered into a drawing for a Nokia N8 (available only to US residents).

Here is a look at my video entry again too:

Thanks everyone and best of luck to all entrants, many of them are my friends so whoever wins deserves it as there are some great tips in there.

Early Nexus S 4G Makes Video Debut, Wireless Tether is a Go

This image has no alt text

We saw earlier that a few Sprint locations were more than willing to part ways with the new Nexus S 4G a few days ahead of schedule, but now we have the above video showing the catch in all its glory. Android Forums members wallstreet777 gives us a quick look at the handset and confirms that, yes, the wireless tether hotspot is active on his brand new Nexus S 4G. Anyone else have luck grabbing one of these early?

Google Acquires Pushlife, Could Bring iTunes-Like Media Management to Android [Video]

This image has no alt text

Google’s opening their checkbooks again and have gone ahead and acquired yet another software firm. This time, the folks at Pushlife are being added to their growing pool of talent. They couldn’t comment on what they’d be doing with Google, of course, but we’d bet all our marbles on them continuing the project they were already working on, except with some Android-exclusive love.

They developed an iTunes-style media management system that allowed you to sync your music back and forth between iTunes and Windows Mobile just as easily as iPod, iPad, and iPhone owners can. They had versions for Android and Blackberry available, but I assume Blackberry support will be dropped in light of the acquisition.

Google’s long been rumored to be launching their own music service – a formal announcement of which we expect to be made at Google IO in May – and this acquisition lends further credibility to all of the murmurs we’ve heard over the past year. (This stuff has been going on since last year’s Google IO, you know.) Check out the video above to get a taste of what could be coming to Android. [via TechCrunch]

PewPew for Android Reminds Me of Geometry Wars [Video]

This image has no alt text

I stumbled across a new game in the Android market called PewPew today. It was released a couple of weeks ago, but I figured it was worth shouting out if most of you haven’t heard of it. It’s something like Geometry Wars if you’ve ever played that – you move about the playing field trying to avoid and shoot different shapes that are trying to take down your shield and destroy you. The game ends when you run out of lives.

I didn’t play long before making this video, but I played it enough to know that it’ll be a mainstay on my phone for quite some time. I’d love to see this get updated for Xperia Play support in the future as those digital thumbsticks would be perfect for this game. Check out the video above and then head on over to the Android market to check it out for yourself for free.

What Android Would Look Like if it Had a Windowed UI [VIDEO]

This image has no alt text

A company called Ixonos was hiding at Mobile World Congress last week and they were showing off their system on top of Android that allows you to work with windows, just like on a desktop PC.

With the windowed UI, you can have multiple applications running at once, and one application doesn’t have to take a backset to another: you can have a video playing in the background while you surf the web in another window.

The windows are resizable, too, and it appears you might even be able to minimize them. It’s not something we’re sure will ever be right for a tablet, but it could be something to look at for netbook OEMs who are looking to use Android for their next product.  Check out the video above.
