“These frames would be big enough for him to wear for years, unlike the first pair we chose”
Ah the optimism – let us know how long they last

Now that you have a pair of glasses that fit well, you can save LOADS of money via buying glasses online instead of expensive brick & mortar eyeglasses stores or (even worse) your optometrist’s office.

Here’s more on our (very favorable) experiences with this:

http://www.2dolphins.com/2009/12/online-optics/

I’ve been wearing glasses since before my first birthday. Does that make my rite of passage the geekiest?

How cute! I got glasses in I think 3rd grade, and my eyesight just deteriorated so fast I can’t see to find my glasses if I take them off! I also despise the glaucoma test with the heat of a thousand PS3’s. My husband wears glasses, so I expect to go through this with my kids someday, I just hope they don’t inherit my terrible astigmatism.

I second the post from 2dolphins.com. My 10-yr old got glasses for the first time last year. He is not the most responsible child. He always left them at home or at school and I was always afraid they’d get lost or broken. At $120 I was going to be pretty upset if that happened. Then I ordered him a few $8 – 10 pairs at ZenniOptical.com. One to keep at school, one to keep at home etc. And even some Harry Potter-looking ones so this year for Halloween he can look like Harry Potter AND be able to see!

I’ve ordered 3 pair for myself and two for my wife. It’s a little difficult picking out what style without actually trying them on, but for the price just order a few. It’s $4.95 shipping no matter how many pairs you order.

One of the first pair I ordered had the magnetic sun shades. Those were actually around $29 if I remember right. Not worth it. Magnets are in the bridge and not strong enough to keep them on when driving with the windows open. Next order I opted for the $3.95 clip-ons.
